Falcons Look To Extend Win Streak Against RedHawks As Homestand Continues

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will continue their homestand this weekend with three games against the Miami (OH) RedHawks at Steller Field. The Falcons enter with a 2-0 record at home and in the midst of a three-game win streak after winning the series finale against Akron before claiming two midweek wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and Youngstown State. As of now, the Falcons and RedHawks are set to play Friday (March 24) at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday (March 26) beginning at 11 a.m.

Scouting Miami (OH)
Miami (OH) will enter the weekend on a three-game losing streak. The RedHawks lost the series finale to Northern Illinois, 4-2, on Sunday (March 19). They also lost midweek games to Oakland, 12-9, and Wright State, 9-7 with all three coming at home. On the season, Miami is 4-18 with a 2-4 standing in the MAC. Their wins this year have come against Cincinnati, Siena and two against Northern Illinois. At the plate, the RedHawks have five batters hitting above .300 with all five logging double-digit RBI, four of the five with at least five doubles and four of the five with at least three home runs this year.

The last time the series between Bowling Green and Miami wasn't a sweep was the 2018 season when the Falcons won one of three in Oxford.

The Falcons played a pair of midweek matchups, winning against both Purdue Fort Wayne and Youngstown State. Over the two games, BGSU blasted six home runs and scored a combined 26 runs. In the game against Youngstown State, the Falcons received a scoreless day from the bullpen with Jacob Turner picking up his first win at the collegiate level in addition to two scoreless innings from both DJ Newman and Landon Willeman. The pair of wins moved BGSU to 2-0 at home this season.

- Sam Seidel has reached base safely in all 10 games he's started for the Falcons, including one game before he entered the starting lineup for an 11-game streak. As a freshman, Seidel is currently second on the team in batting average, hitting .308, tied for the team lead in runs scored with 10, tied for second in walks with 10 and leads the team in stolen bases with eight.
- Kyle Gurney enters the weekend with a four-game hit streak. Over the stretch, Gurney is batting .643 (9-for-14) with six runs scored, five walks drawn, four RBI, two doubles, two stolen bases and one home run.
- Against Youngstown State, Nathan Rose logged a team-high five RBI. In the two home games this season, Rose is 4-for-10 (.400) at the plate with seven RBI, two runs scored, a double, a triple and a home run.
