Falcons Return To The Road Tuesday For First Of Five Straight Road Games

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will head back on the road for their next five games, beginning on Tuesday (March 28) against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons. Scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch, Tuesday's game will mark the second game of the home-and-home series between Bowling Green and Purdue Fort Wayne. The first game was played at Steller Field in Bowling Green last Tuesday (March 21) with the Orange and Brown claiming an 8-6 win. BGSU will enter the game with an 8-13 record with wins in five of their last six games.

Game One Of The Series
The Falcons and Mastodons played the first game of the home-and-home on Tuesday (March 21) at Steller Field with the Orange and Brown claiming an 8-6 victory. The game was tied 4-4 through four innings, but the Falcons scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth to jump ahead for the win. Kyle Gurney led the way, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, a double and a home run. Gavin Ganun added a 3-for-4 day as well with two runs scored, one RBI, one double and one home run. On the mound, Connar Penrod recorded the win with Owen Recker tallying the save.

Scouting Purdue Fort Wayne
Since the first meeting between the two teams, Purdue Fort Wayne played a three-game series against Northern Kentucky, winning the first two games before falling in the third. Despite winning the series, the Mastodons were outscored 20-16 over the three game series. The second win for Purdue Fort Wayne came thanks to a seventh inning grand slam to tie the game, sparking what would be a 9-5 win for the Mastodons. On the season, Purdue Fort Wayne enters with a 6-18 record while being 3-3 in the Horizon League.

Against the Mastodons All Time
The Falcons and Mastodons have played 18 times previously with Bowling Green holding the advantage, 13-5. BGSU has won four straight over Purdue Fort Wayne as well as seven of the last eight. BGSU and Purdue Fort Wayne also played a home-and-home series during the 2019 season. The Falcons won both games that year, winning at home 3-1 and on the road 10-4.

What To Watch For

With a win, the Falcons would move to 6-1 over their last seven games.
A win would complete the sweep over the Mastodons for Bowling Green while extending the BGSU win streak against Purdue Fort Wayne to five games as well as winning eight of the last nine meetings.
Bowling Green has won the last two games played in Fort Wayne between the two teams.
A win would move the Falcons to 3-0 this season against Horizon League opponents.

Falcon Facts To Follow

Kyle Gurney will enter Tuesday's game riding a seven-game hitting streak. During the streak, Gurney is hitting .480 (12-for-25) with seven runs scored, seven walks drawn, five RBI, three doubles, two stolen bases and a home run.
Nathan Rose enters the game on a five-game hitting streak and a nine-game on-base streak. During his hitting streak, Rose is batting .391 (9-for-23) with 12 RBI, six runs scored, four home runs, two doubles and a triple.
Nathan Archer will enter the game with a four-game hitting streak as well as a six-game on-base streak. Over the last four games, Archer is batting .300 (5-for-15) with six RBI, four walks drawn, three runs scored, two doubles and a stolen base. Archer also currently leads the MAC and is tied for 11th in the nation for sacrifice flies with four.
So far this season, Adam Fallon has logged six hits for the Falcons and has three home runs. The three home runs for Fallon are a new single season high for his time with BGSU and has doubled his career home run total.
Sam Seidel has swiped a team-high nine bases for the Falcons so far this season, entering the week tied for seventh in the MAC.
Connar Penrod is currently tied atop the MAC standings for wins this season with four, being tied for 25th in the nation. His one save is also tied for 11th in the conference.
Owen Recker enters the week as one of just 10 pitchers in the MAC with multiple saves this season, recording two so far.
As a team, the Falcons are currently tied for 46th in the nation for stolen bases per game, averaging 1.71 per contest.

Last Time Out
Over the weekend, the Falcons took two of three games from the Miami (OH) RedHawks, seeing their win streak come to a close at five straight while also starting their home slate 4-0, the best start at home since 2008. On Friday (March 24), the Falcons overcame a 2-0 deficit to score five unanswered runs and win 5-2. As for their win on Sunday (March 26), the Falcons began strong with four runs in the second. They added one in the third, two in both the fifth and the sixth and finished it off with three in the eighth to record the 12-3 victory.
