Rose Extends Hit Streak To Eight Games As Falcons Fall In Doubleheader Action

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team played a doubleheader against the Evansville Aces Saturday (March 4), playing two seven innings games. For the Falcons, Nathan Rose tallied a base hit in each game, extending his hitting streak to eight games with a hit in each game so far this season. On the day, Kyle Gurney went 3-for-6 with a double. The Aces claimed both games, winning the first 9-3 and the second 11-0 to move BGSU to 2-6 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME ONE
- A leadoff double in the bottom of the first followed by a single plated the first run of the day for Evansville, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
- With runners at first and second, BGSU starter Gage Schenk was able to log a strikeout and fly out, but a two-out triple added a pair of runs to the Aces' tally by the end of the first, leading 3-0.
- Nathan Rose logged BGSU's first hit in the top of the second, singling to center and extending his hitting streak to seven games to start the season.
- Back-to-back bases loaded walks in the bottom of the third put two more runs on the board for Evansville, 5-0.
- The Falcons got on the board in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Justin Fugitt blasted his first home run of the season, sending it out to right center to cut the lead to 5-1.
- In the top of the fifth, Leighton Banjoff began the inning with a walk before stealing second. With two outs in the inning, Nathan Archer doubled to left field, scoring Banjoff to bring the score to 5-2 Evansville.
- The Aces answered with an RBI triple and sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 7-2.
- An RBI single and another sacrifice fly for Evansville in the sixth pushed their lead to 9-2.
- In the top of the seventh, DJ Newman logged a base hit in his first collegiate plate appearance, scoring on a grounder by Archer to make it the 9-3 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME TWO
- Kyle Gurney registered the first hit of the second game, ripping a double down the left field line with two out in the first. Gurney moved up to third on a wild pitch, but couldn't score before the end of the half inning.
- A solo home run in the bottom of the first for Evansville made it a 1-0 game after one played.
- Nathan Rose doubled to begin the second inning followed by a Leighton Banjoff walk, but the Aces worked out of the inning with the 1-0 score intact.
- The second and third innings were scoreless before an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth brought home the second Evansville run of the game, moving the score to 2-0.
- Evansville tallied four runs in the bottom of the fifth and five in the bottom of the sixth to push the score to 11-0, ending the game after seven innings.
