BGSU Completes Weekend Series In Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team completed the weekend series against the Evansville Aces on Sunday (March 5) with the second doubleheader of the weekend. The Falcons were paced by Sam Seidel, making his first two starts with Bowling Green, batting 3-for-6 at the plate. Evansville took both games, moving BGSU to 2-8 on the season going into the MAC opening series next weekend at Ohio.

The Falcons will turn their attention to conference play next weekend, scheduled for a three-game series in Athens against the Ohio Bobcats. Friday (March 10) is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday (March 11) and 1 p.m. on Sunday (March 12).

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME ONE
- Making his first start of the second and batting second, Sam Seidel logged a single in the first inning after a nine-pitch at-bat.
- Evansville scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, crossing home on a wild pitch.
- The Aces added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run to push their lead to 3-0.
- The Falcons broke into the scoring column in the top of the fourth. Seidel reached on a walk and advanced to second on a walk drawn by Kyle Gurney. A throwing error allowed Seidel to come around and score.
- In the same inning, DJ Newman recorded his first collegiate RBI, bringing in Gurney on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down to 3-2.
- Evansville responded in the bottom half of the fourth with an RBI single to push the score to 4-2.
- Two sacrifice flies in the bottom of the fifth along with a two-RBI triple for the Aces increased their lead to 8-2.
- The Falcons added to their tally in the top of the seventh. Anthony Toma logged a pinch hit double to score Jack Krause. Toma scored on a Tyler Ross single in the next at-bat to make it an 8-4 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME TWO
- The Aces tallied the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Evansville concluded the inning up 4-0.
- Evansville added to their lead in the second inning with a few singles, bringing in four more runs for the Aces with the score at 8-0.
- Another run in the bottom of the third for Evansville pushed their lead to 9-0 through three innings played.
- In the top of the fourth the Falcons found the scoring column. Bowling Green loaded the bases and a sacrifice fly by Nathan Archer brought Jack Krause home to make it a 9-1 score.
- The Aces responded with a run in the bottom half of the fourth to push their lead to 10-1 before a solo home run to start the bottom of the fifth increased the score to 11-1.
- Krause began the sixth inning with a double followed by a walk from Leighton Banjoff to put two on for BGSU. A wild pitch allowed the runners to move up to second and third. Nathan Archer delivered a base hit to left field, scoring Krause.
- In the next at-bat, Sam Seidel singled through the right side to bring in Banjoff and make it an 11-3 ball game.
- Evansville answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead back to 13-3 for the eventual final.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- Sam Seidel and DJ Newman both logged their first starts at the collegiate level. Seidel singled and scored while Newman recorded an RBI.
- Seidel finished the game 3-for-6, batting .500 across his first two starts as a Falcon.
- Without a hit in the first game of the day, Nathan Rose's hit streak to start the season came to a close at eight games.
