BGSU Baseball To Begin Conference Campaign With Weekend Series In Athens

ATHENS, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will begin play within the Mid-American Conference this weekend against the Ohio Bobcats. The Falcons and Bobcats are set for a three-game series in Athens with each game being streamed on YouTube. After schedule changes to the upcoming weather forecast, Friday will begin at 2 p.m. with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Falcons are coming off a tough test in non-conference play, picking up a pair of wins. BGSU's first victory came against Tennessee Tech during the opening weekend of the season by a score of 10-4. The Golden Eagles entered the series coming off a 30-win season in 2022. The second win for the Falcons came against nationally-ranked Louisville, 9-6, and currently stands as the Cardinals' only loss this season.

Scouting Ohio
The Bobcats will enter the weekend series on a four-game losing streak with a 2-9 record. Ohio's first win of the season came against Navy by a score of 27-9, the only meeting between the two. The second OU victory was in the series finale against Western Kentucky with a 6-4 final. So far this season, the Bobcats are 2-1 when playing on Sunday, but 0-8 on other days of the week. At the plate, Ohio is paced by AJ Rausch, batting .357 with seven doubles, nine RBI and 11 walks. Rausch is followed by Alec Patino who is batting .333 with six doubles and 15 RBI.

Bowling Green and Ohio have met 179 times over the history of the two programs with the first meeting dating back to the 1952 season. The Bobcats hold a slight edge all-time with a record of 96-82-1 against BGSU. Last year, the two teams split a two-game series in Bowling Green. The Falcons won the first game 14-2 while the Bobcats took game two 21-6. The Orange and Brown last made the trip to Athens in 2021, winning three of four games played.
