
Falcons Sweep Saturday Doubleheader To Take Weekend Series From EMU

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
- Eastern Michigan began the day with a solo home run in the first inning to go up 1-0.
- The Falcons answered in the bottom half. DJ Newman drew a walk to reach before taking two bases on a wild pitch. Kyle Gurney walked as well to put two on for the Falcons. Nathan Rose put a ball in play to score Newman from third and knot it up at 1-1 after one.
- In the second, Tyler Ross ripped a double over the head of the right fielder. Justin Fugitt followed by laying down a bunt, reaching first and advancing to second on a throwing error with Ross scoring.
- Leighton Banjoff continued the rally with a hit to left field, taking second on a fielding error while Fugitt scored to make it a 3-1 BGSU lead.
- Later in the inning, Newman found a hole in the right side of the infield to bring home Banjoff. Gurney did the same in the next at-bat, this time through the left side, scoring Newman to make it a 5-1 lead.
- Eastern Michigan added three runs in the top of the third to close the gap to 5-4.
- A solo home run for the Eagles to start the fourth inning tied the game at 5-5 before a pitching change for the Falcons. Two more crossed in the inning to push EMU in front 7-5.
- Gurney walked to begin the bottom of the seventh followed by Seidel being hit by a pitch and a walk to Rose to load it up. Archer delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Gurney to bring the score to 7-6.
- Ross followed with a walk to load the bases once again. Fugitt was able to find a hole in the left side of the infield, scoring both Seidel and Rose and push the Falcons in front 8-7 through seven.
- BGSU added insurance runs in the eighth. Mason Montgomery drew a leadoff walk before Newman demolished his first collegiate home run to left center to increase the score to 10-7.
- Gurney was hit by a pitch and Seidel walked before Rose doubled to the left center gap, scoring Gurney to make it an 11-7 BGSU lead going into the ninth.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
- The Falcons picked up where they left off, scoring three in the bottom of the first. DJ Newman began the game by drawing a walk before tagging on a foul out, moving into scoring position. Nathan Rose hit a double into left field, scoring Newman for the first run.
- Nathan Archer followed Rose by lacing a frozen rope over the right field fence, a two-run trip for Archer to give BGSU a 3-0 lead after one played.
- Kyle Gurney doubled in the bottom of the third and scored on a Sam Seidel single that hopped over the second baseman to push BGSU to a 4-0 lead.
- The runs continued for the Falcons in the inning. Rose walked to join Seidel before a sacrifice fly by Archer brought home Seidel for a 5-0 advantage.
- BGSU scored on each of the next three hits, being a double by Tyler Ross, a double by Justin Fugitt and a single by Leighton Banjoff to make it an 8-0 lead through three for the Falcons.
- Eastern Michigan scored five runs in the top of the fourth to close the score to 8-5.
- Back-to-back walks in the bottom of the fourth set up an RBI for Rose, scoring Gurney to increase the BGSU lead to 9-5.
- EMU added a run in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 9-6.
- Mason Montgomery walked to begin the bottom of the sixth before Kyle Gurney blasted a two-run home to increase the score to 11-6 BGSU.
- In the seventh, the Falcons worked to load the bases. Archer doubled followed by a Ross single and Fugitt being hit by a pitch. Banjoff hit a sacrifice fly to add a run to the lead for Bowling Green, 12-6.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Seidel reached on a bunt single with two outs, scoring on a Rose double to the left center gap to give BGSU a 13-6 advantage going into the ninth.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- With the pair of wins, the Falcons took the series over the Eagles. This marks the first time since 2005 that Bowling Green has won a multi-game season series against Eastern Michigan.
- The wins also marked the first wins for BGSU against EMU at Steller Field since March 31, 2018.
- Nathan Archer tallied two sacrifice flies on the day, one in each game, bringing his season total to seven which ties him for the nation's lead with Kansas State's Nick Goodwin.
- Kyle Gurney recorded at least one hit in each game, extending his on-base streak to 18 games while recording a hit in 17 of the last 18.
- Sam Seidel reached base in both games as well. This season, Seidel has played in 29 games and has reached base in 26 of them.
- Tyler Ross joined the hit parade with at least one in each game to extend his hitting streak to five games.
- Over the two games, Justin Fugitt went 3-for-7 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI. Fugitt is now in the midst of a three-game hitting streak, batting .400 (4-for-10) with five RBI, three runs scored, a double and a triple.
- Nathan Rose broke a five-game hitless streak with a solid day at the dish. Rose went 4-for-8 with five RBI, three runs scored and three doubles in the doubleheader.

The Falcons next game will be on the road Tuesday (April 18), taking on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in Rochester, Mich for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
