HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sam Seidel tallied the first hit of the game for the Falcons with a single through the left side. Tyler Ross drew a two-out walk to put two on. Leighton Banjoff followed with a single to short, scoring Seidel for a 1-0 BGSU lead after one.
- Akron threatened in the second, but a strong relay ended the inning. Jack Krause fielded a ball in right and rifled it to TJ Takats for the cut and Garrett Wright at the plate to nail the runner at home to keep the score intact.
- The BGSU offense struck again in the fourth inning. Banjoff started the bottom half with a double in the left field gap. Takats later drew a walk to put two on before Wright was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Nathan Archer was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat with the bases loaded to plate Banjoff for the second BGSU run of the game.
- Seidel stepped in and checked his swing with two strikes on a dropped pitch, called a ball. With confusion in the field, the Falcons were able to execute a delayed triple steal on the pitch with Takats scoring to make it 3-0 Falcons.
- Later in the at-bat for Seidel, he laced a single up the middle, scoring both Wright and Archer to give the Bowling Green a 5-0 lead through four innings played.
- In the top of the eighth, Akron threatened on the base paths. A single and double put runners at second and third for the Zips. Landon Willeman was called on from the pen and recorded back-to-back strikeouts looking to get out of the jam.
- In the bottom half of the eighth, the Falcons added insurance. Ross began the inning with a double down the left field line. Banjoff laid down a bunt, advancing to third on a throwing error with Ross scoring. The rally continued with a Krause single that brought home Banjoff for a 7-0 score.
- Krause was able to take second on a wild pitch before Takats put a ball in play and reached on a fielding error to put runners at the corners for BGSU with no outs. Gavin Ganun stepped in and singled through the left side to score Krause and make it 8-0.
- A wild pitch allowed Takats and Ganun to each advance a base. Back-to-back BGSU groundouts were enough to plate both runners for a 10-0 lead.
- Akron added an unearned run in the ninth for the 10-1 final in the first game of the weekend series.
