Gavin Ganun's Grand Slam Gets Falcons To 8-0 In MAC Play
BGSU belted three home runs in the game, including a grand slam from Gavin Ganun to push the Falcons back to the lead in the eighth inning. In addition to the long balls, Tyler Ross hit a pair of triples, becoming just the 10th player in program history with multiple triples in a game, tying the program record. DJ Newman did both, hitting a triple and a home run while coming a double shy of the cycle. On the mound, Perry Miller tallied the win out of the bullpen, his third of the season to tie for the team lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons scored the first run of the game with a Jack Krause home run in the bottom of the second inning, clearing the trees in right field with the blast.
- Akron tallied a run in the top of the third to answer and tie the game at 1-1.
- In the bottom half of the third, Nathan Archer put a ball in play and reached first on a fielding error. Later in the inning, DJ Newman homered to center, a two-run home run, to put the Falcons back in front.
- Tyler Ross followed Newman's home run with a two-out triple and came home to score on a Krause single to right, making it a 4-1 BGSU lead through three innings.
- Akron scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-4 advantage.
- Akron scored an insurance run in the seventh, but a relay in from right caught the Zip batter in a pickle between first and second to end the top of the inning with a 6-4 score.
- The Falcons rallied in the eighth. Ross doubled to right center followed by a Leighton Banjoff single to put runners at the corners. After a pitching change, a walk to Krause loaded the bases before TJ Takats drew another walk to force home Ross for a 6-5 score.
- With the bases still loaded, Gavin Ganun rocketed a ball skyward to right center for a grand slam, clearing the bases and reclaiming the lead for the Falcons at 9-6.
- BGSU put together a two-out rally later in the eighth. Sam Seidel singled to left center before Newman went to right center for an RBI triple. After the second Akron pitching change in the inning, Ross and Newman traded places with Ross' second triple of the game to push the lead to 11-6.
- In the ninth, Jacob Turner worked a one-two-three inning out of the bullpen, including a strikeout looking, to end the game and grant BGSU the victory.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- The win moves BGSU to 8-0 to start MAC play for the first time in program history.
- As a team, the Falcons hit three triples with two from Tyler Ross and one from DJ Newman. The last time BGSU had three or more triples in a game was last season against Northern Illinois when they logged four.
- Ross had a day at the plate, logging two triples and a double. The triples tie Ross for the program record for triples in a game. He is the 10th player in program history, and the first this season, to have a pair of triples in the same game.
- The hits extended Ross' on-base streak as well, now at 16 games this season, all games he's played in, and 17 games overall going back to last season. Ross has also had a double in three straight games.
- Newman was a double shy of the cycle. His triple brought his season total to three, tied with Ross for the team lead, while his home run was his team-leading sixth of the season. Newman now has a four-game hitting streak, batting .429 (9-for-21) with 11 RBI, seven runs scored, three home runs and two triples.
- Sam Seidel singled in the eighth inning to continue his on-base streak, including all 17 games he's played in this season. Dating back to last season, Seidel has now reached in 28 straight games. Seidel is also in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak.
- Jack Krause's home run pushed his hitting streak to seven games as well, tying Seidel for the team-lead. Krause has reached base in nine straight games, has recorded an RBI in six straight and has scored in four straight.
- Gavin Ganun's eighth inning grand slam marked the second of the season for BGSU with Nathan Archer hitting one against Memphis earlier this year. Ganun now has a hit in five straight games for the Orange and Brown.
- Leighton Banjoff now has a four-game hitting streak and a five-game on-base streak, scoring in all five games. Over the five game stretch, Banjoff has scored nine times.
- Pitching a scoreless eighth inning, Perry Miller tallied the win to mark his third of the season, tied for the team-lead. Miller has made six appearances this season and hasn't allowed an earned run in four of them.
- Jacob Turner closed the door with a scoreless ninth. Turner now has three straight scoreless outings from the bullpen, as well as four of his last five.
