Falcons Break Three Program Records In Win Over Toledo At Fifth Third Field

BGSU Secures 23rd MAC Win To Shatter Single-Season Record
As a team, Bowling Green also broke the program record for strikeouts in a season, a record that had stood for 25 years, ending the night with 373 for the season. Nathan Archer broke an individual record as well, logging 229 at-bats this season, the most by a Falcon in a single season ever. BGSU and Toledo will conclude the series on Saturday (May 18) with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Steller Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Toledo scored the first runs of the game in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead after starting the game with two scoreless innings.
- The Falcons came with an answer in the bottom half. TJ Takats began the inning by reaching on an error. Sam Seidel singled to put two on before a Landon Roque sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position. Caden Parker was able to leg out an infield single for the first BGSU run.
- Garrett Wright stepped in and smacked a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Seidel to tie the game at 2-2.
- Tyler Ross followed with a near identical hit as Wright through the left side, bringing Parker around to score for a 3-2 BGSU lead through three innings played.
- Jack Krause began the bottom of the fourth by being hit by a pitch. He took second on a wild pitch, stole third and then scored on another wild pitch for a 4-2 score.
- In the midst of Krause's steal, Takats drew a walk and took second on the wild pitch that scored Krause. Seidel drilled a double down the right field line to score Takats for a 5-2 lead.
- Roque stepped in and obliterated a ball over the road beyond the left field wall to push the BGSU advantage to 7-2.
- Nathan Archer kept the rally going by legging out a bunt single, taking second on a stolen base. Wright found a hole up the middle for a single, scoring Archer for an 8-2 BGSU tally.
- Toledo scored two in the sixth to cut the lead down to 8-4, another in the seventh for an 8-5 score and one more in the eighth for an 8-6 tally.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- The Falcons recorded MAC win 23 of the season, breaking the program record for MAC wins in a single-season, set previously by both the 1995 and 1999 teams at 22.
- The win also gives BGSU 31 overall for the season, the most for the program since tallying 31 during the 2010 season.
- As a team, the Falcons registered nine strikeouts in the game, bringing the season total to 373, breaking the program record for strikeouts in a season, previously set at 368 by the 1999 team.
- Entering the game tied for the program record in at-bats, Nathan Archer broke the record in his first at-bat of the game, marking his 225 of the season. He ended the game with 229 at-bats on the season.
- With his fourth inning home run, Landon Roque pushed his hitting streak to 11 games for the Falcons, the second-longest active streak on the team.
- Garrett Wright logged an RBI single for the Falcons in the third inning. He's now recorded a hit in four consecutive games and an RBI in three straight.
- Sam Seidel has reached in both of the games for BGSU in the series. Going back to last season, Seidel has now reached base in 51 of the last 52 games he's registered an at-bat in.
- Leighton Banjoff drew a seventh inning walk to bring his season total to 40, tying him for sixth all-time in single-season walks. The walk also extended Banjoff's on-base streak to a team-leading 24.

The Falcons and Rockets will conclude the Battle of I-75 on Saturday (May 18) with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Steller Field, including Senior Day festivities before the game.
