Stade Strikes Out Eight Over Seven Scoreless Innings In Strong Start
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team opened up the newly renovated Steller Field with a 7-0 shutout victory Friday night (March 20) over the Ohio Bobcats. Entering the night after a 17-game road swing to open the season and the fourth-hardest schedule in the nation according to the NCAA's strength of schedule metric, the Falcons welcomed the home crowd at Steller Field with a bang. Sam Seidel's second-inning grand slam sparked the 7-0 victory offensively. As for the mound, Ethan Stade and Carrson Sova combined for the shutout while totaling 12 strikeouts and allowing just three hits and three walks. The Falcons and Bobcats will continue the series on Saturday (March 21) with a 1 p.m. first pitch. Prior to the game, there will be a celebration and ribbon cutting beginning at 12:30 p.m. for the Steller Field renovations.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the first, Sam Seidel roped a double to the right center gap for the first hit of the evening. However, the first run didn't come until the second frame.
- TJ Takats drew a leadoff walk followed by an Andrew DiLodovico single up the middle and a Brayden Curlis hit-by-pitch to load the bases in the second. Pauly Mancino took one for the team with another HBP, forcing home Takats for the first run of the game.
- Ohio worked for the second out of the inning, but with the bases still loaded Sam Seidel came through with a grand slam to right center, pushing the BGSU lead to 5-0 after two innings.
- Ohio's first hit of the game came in the fourth inning with two outs after Ethan Stade retired the first 11 Bobcats of the game, including six via strikeout.
- The Falcons added to their total in the sixth inning. Anthony Mitta began the bottom half with a double to right center. DiLodovico followed later in the inning with a triple past a diving right fielder, scoring Mitta. In the next at-bat, Carter Mottice put a ball in play to score DiLodovico, making it 7-0.

FALCON STAT FACTS

- Sam Seidel's grand slam marked the first home run at the newly renovated Steller Field and the first to fly over the outfield wall that Seidel himself designed. It also marked BGSU's first grand slam since Gavin Ganun hit one against Ball State on April 18, 2025.
- Ethan Stade put together a strong start for Bowling Green, hurling seven scoreless frames with 107 pitches. Stade struck out eight and allowed just two hits and one walk. The outing is his second of the year with 5+ strikeouts after posting 11 against Kent State on March 7. Stade also tallied the win in the game, his first with the Falcons.
- Andrew DiLodovico posted a three-hit day for the Falcons, the first of his collegiate career. One went down as a triple for DiLodovico, becoming the fifth different Falcon with a triple this season. He's now registered at least one hit and one run scored in each of the last four games.
- Carrson Sova took over for Stade in the eighth and controlled the final two frames on the mound for BGSU. Sova registered four strikeouts, including the final two of the game, in the outing while allowing just one hit and two walks.
