Falcons Fall To Kent State In Sunday Rubber Match

Salvione Tallies Third Home Run Of The Season, Second Of The Series
KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team and the Kent State Golden Flashes played a tight game through the first four innings of Sunday's rubber match, playing with a 1-1 tie. Jackson Miller produced a strong outing in his first career start while Vinny Salvione belted a home run for BGSU. However, an 11-run fifth inning for Kent State changed the course of the game, leading the Golden Flashes to taking the rubber match with a 13-1 final score.

Bowling Green is set for a midweek contest at Dayton on Tuesday (March 10), currently scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kent State tallied the first hit and run of the game with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. Jackson Miller bounced back quickly for Bowling Green, striking out three straight to end the inning.
- In the second, Kent State put two on via walks and attempted a double steal. However, a grounder to Anthony Mitta at third resulted in Mitta stepping on third and firing to first for an inning-ending double play.
- BGSU broke into the hit column and the run column with one swing in the fourth. Vinny Salvione obliterated a ball to left field, watching it fly over the fence for a 1-1 tie.
- Defensively, the Falcons continued to roll double plays, ending the third and fourth innings with double plays as well, making for four consecutive frames with inning-ending double plays. In total, BGSU ended four of six innings defensively with double plays.
- Kent State reclaimed the lead in the fifth with an 11-run frame, resulting in a 12-1 score. The Golden Flashes added one in the sixth for a 13-1 final.

- Jackson Miller made the first start of his collegiate career. After allowing a leadoff home run, Miller was near perfect, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts from the second batter on.
- Vinny Salvione knocked his third home run of the season, now leading the team, and his second of the weekend. Salvione registered a triple or a home run in each game against Kent State over the course of the series. He now has a six-game hitting streak and a six-game RBI streak while scoring in five of the six games as well.
- Anthony Mitta registered a single in the seventh, extending his on-base streak to a now team-leading 10 games. Mitta has a base hit in nine of the last 10 games for Bowling Green.
- Coming on as a pinch hitter in the seventh, redshirt freshman Jaxon Brown made his collegiate debut for the Falcons.
