Laird Running Through Record Book
Alex Laird couldn't be stopped on the base paths this past series against Akron, stealing seven bases on seven attempts in the final game of the three-game set. The seven stolen bases for Laird marked not only a new program record for a single game, but a new MAC record as well. Additionally, Laird was only one short of the NCAA record, set at eight by King Lewis (Bethune-Cookman) in 1994 and matched by Bobby Kingsbury (Fordham) in 2001, both on eight attempts. Laird now has 12 stolen bases on the season, second for BGSU behind only Sam Seidel's 13. As for his career, Laird has 20 stolen bases in the Orange and Brown, second on the active roster behind Seidel's 49. As a team, the Falcons stole 12 bases in the series finale against Akron, the most in at least 25 seasons with game-by-game stats available back to 2001.
Scouting Ohio State
The Buckeyes are currently riding a seven-game winning streak with their last loss being a 10-8 final at Wright State on March 24. Since then, Ohio State has swept both Minnesota and Maryland with a 10-5 midweek win over Toledo pinned between. Additionally, OSU has won 11 of their last 12, averaging 10 runs per game over that span while allowing just 5.1 runs per game. This past weekend, Ohio State stuck to the traditional Friday-Saturday-Sunday series rather than adjusting for Easter, giving the Falcons two additional days off from games leading into the contest.

What To Watch For
Staying In Ohio
Tuesday's game at Ohio State will mark Bowling Green's only road game over a stretch of nine contests from April 2-14. With the road game still being in the state of Ohio, the Falcons are currently in the midst of playing 21 of 24 games in their home state from March 6 to April 14. The three games outside of Ohio came at Northern Illinois on March 27-29 in DeKalb, Ill. The next game out of Ohio for the Falcons will be on April 15 in Buffalo, N.Y. against Canisius, beginning a stretch of five games out of state that will take BGSU to New York (Canisius in Buffalo), Massachusetts (UMass in Amherst) and Michigan (Michigan in Ann Arbor) before returning home on April 24.
Stade Catching Fire
Ethan Stade has been lights out for the Falcons over his last five outings, logging eight or more strikeouts in four of the five appearances including in each of the last three. During those five appearances, Stade is 2-1 with a save to go along with a 3.08 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. Additionally, over his last five outings, Stade is averaging 8.2 strikeouts per appearance and for the year he's averaging 14.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Stade is now not only leading the MAC in the stat, but ranked 13th in the nation. As for total strikeouts, Stade is just four off the MAC lead, held at 51 by NIU's Max Vaisvila. With 47 strikeouts, Stade has already tallied a career-high for strikeouts in a season after totaling 50 over three seasons at Minnesota State.
Striking Out The Competition
As a pitching staff, Bowling Green has found their groove in the strikeout column. So far this season, BGSU has posted 12 different pitching outings with 5+ strikeouts, including one in each game this past weekend. Ethan Stade leads the way with four followed by three from Jacob Turner. Nate Kress and Carrson Sova have both produced two with the list rounding out with one from Jackson Miller. As a team, the Falcons are averaging 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings with 255 through 28 games. On the current pace with 54 games on the schedule, Bowling Green will total 492 strikeouts this year, which would obliterate the program record, set last year, at 431. BGSU has set a new team strikeout record each of the last two seasons, registering 403 in 2024. Prior to 2024, the record had been set at 368 from the 1999 campaign.
