THIS WEEKEND
The Bowling Green State University Falcon hockey team will (finally) end a seven-game road trip that began back on Dec. 12, 2009. BGSU travels to Marquette, Mich. to play two games against the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The series also begins a streak of six consecutive games against Michigan-based teams (Western Michigan and University of Michigan) that are to come on the schedule. Game times are set for 7:35 p.m. EST for both Friday and Saturday night at the Berry Events Center.
MEDIA COVERAGE
This weekend's hockey games can be heard as scheduled on WBGU-FM with Everett Fitzhugh bringing you the live action, shot-for-shot. A special guest will provide the color analysis. Both broadcasts can be heard globally on www.bgsufalcons.com.

LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons return to action after being swept by the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio last weekend by final scores of 7-2 and 4-3 on Jan. 8-9. Bowling Green trailed 3-2 going into the third period on Friday night before the Buckeyes scored four unanswered goals, two of which on the power play. Tommy Dee scored both Falcon goals that night in the loss. Saturday night, the Falcons rebounded with a much stronger performance despite the loss. Cameron Sinclair notched his first career goal to begin the Falcon scoring with seniors Tomas Petruska and Josh Boyd pitching in scores before the Buckeyes clamped down and stopped a 7-on-5 Falcon advance in the last sixty seconds to preserve the 4-3 score and Buckeye win.
THE STARTING FIVE - Five Facts On BGSU Hockey
(1) In the34-year history between these two schools, BGSU and NMU have met a total of 80 times since their first meeting in 1976. The all-time series favors Bowling Green slightly, 34-30--6, though BGSU has not won a road game versus the Wildcats since March 2001.
(2) Bowling Green alum have all met Bowling Green at their recent game destinations. Clarkon head coach George Roll ('86), Ohio State head coach John Markell ('79) and MSU assistant coach Tom Newton ('80), who also holds two BGSU scoring records, are all Bowling Green graduates whose teams have played the Falcons this season. Bowling Green is 1-5-0 in games against those teams this season with the win coming against Clarkson.
(3) Last week at Ohio State, Cameron Sinclair (So., F) scored his first collegiate goal in a 4-3 loss on Saturday night (Jan. 12). Assisting was Brennan Vargas (So., F) and James McIntosh (Jr., F). That goal was only the second Falcon goal on the season that did not include a freshman or a senior in the scoring column. The other was Wade Finegan's unassisted goal versus Michigan State on Dec. 11, 2009.
(4) Northern Michigan coach Walt Kyle has brought back success to his program against the Falcons since his takeover. From 1991 to 2002, NMU was a combined 5-9-2 against BGSU. Since Kyle's hiring, the Wildcats are 7-10-1 and split a four-game series with the Falcons last season sweeping Bowling Green in Marquette, Mich.
(5) In recent years, the Falcons have struggled in the second half of their seasons. Last year the Falcons finished their last 18 games with a 4-14-0 record. Since 2000-01, BGSU has only had two seasons with post-.500 records in the second half of the season (2000-01, 2004-05) and have a combined record of 49-106-10 in that time. This year, they are currently 1-3-0 through four games in the second half of 2009-10.
HELPY MC-HELPERTON
Senior captain, Kyle Page, has been especially helpful towards the Falcon offense recently. Since Nov. 28 at Notre Dame, Page has scored points in six of his last nine games, including six assists and a goal. Twice, those assists came in back-to-back games (Nov. 28 - Dec. 4 and Dec. 11-12). His lone goal came against Clarkson (Jan. 3) when he posted a multi-point game with a goal and an assist. He is currently one goal and one assist away from tying career-highs in both categories. Last year, Page posted a career year with four goals, ten assists and 14 points - all career highs.
I GOT SCORING IN UNUSUAL PLACES
All season long the Falcon offense has been relying heavily on its senior and freshman classes for the team's scoring. Last weekend did feature scoring from both of those classes, but the junior and sophomore classes were key in keeping the Falcons alive in their last three games. Sophomore forwards Cameron Sincalir and Brennan Vargas both scored points in their last two games they have played in, including their first collegiate goals. Vargas scored his first career goal in their win over Clarkson (Jan. 3) and added an assist on Jan. 9 at Ohio State, while Sinclair did the opposite, adding an assist versus Clarkson and scoring his first goal against Ohio State. James McIntosh (Jr., F) assisted on Sinclair's goal while junior A-captain David Solway added assists in both the Clarkson win and the Jan. 9 Ohio State loss.
OH SO CLOSE
Bowling Green has officially played in seven one-goal games this season, winning one of those games (Clarkson, Jan. 3). Two of the remaining five games the Falcons had the lead or were tied going into the last period of play (Nov. 27 at Notre Dame and vs. Michigan State, Dec. 11). In the season-opener gainst Minnesota State (Oct. 9), at Ferris State (Nov. 7) and at Ohio State (Jan. 9), - all road games - BGSU scored goals in the third period to attempt a last period charge on their way to falling short by that final goal. In three games that were technically decided by two goals, the Falcons trailed by only one goal before their opponent scored an empty-net goal to extend the lead to two goals. That is a grand total of ten games that were decided by one goal in 59:00 and change in time, nine of which the Falcons ended on the short-end.
SWEET HOME B-G-S-U
Bowling Green's rich hockey tradition has not only produced great collegiate and professional hockey players but also coaches. Some of those BGSU by-product coaches have been seen in games against the Falcons, even as recently as last week! Of course, current BGSU interim head coach, Dennis Williams is a BGSU alum ('02), but Clarkson head coach George Roll ('86) and Ohio State head coach John Markell ('79) also previously wore the Brown and Orange in their collegiate hockey days. Let's not forget current Michigan State assistant coach Tom Newton ('80) who set two BGSU scoring records during his Falcon days for fastest back-to-back goals scored and having scored three goals in the fastest amount of time set in two different games in 1978. Bowling Green is 1-4-0 in games against teams with former BGSU players this season.
