LAST TIME OUT
Bowling Green went 1-3 in last week' when they opened up the MAC season against Northern Illinois on March 26 followed by a non-conference game at the University of Dayton earlier this week. The Huskies won the series against the Falcons winning two of three games on the weekend. In the Falcons' 7-2 win on 3/27, freshman Michael Frank won his first game wearing Brown and Orange after tossing six innings and only allowing two runs, one earned. Charles Wooten pitched three perfect innings in a long-save situation and earned his second save of the season. In mid-week action, the Falcons dropped a non-conference game against the University of Dayton, 4-2. Nick Bruns allowed four runs in five innings of work in his first collegiate start while the bullpen shut down the Flyers offense in three innings of work allowing only three base runners in that time.
THE SERIES - FALCONS vs. EAGLES
The Falcons and Eagles series dates back to 1939 and sides with the Eagles with a 64-89 all-time mark. The Eagles and Falcons will engage in the “Battle of the Birds” in regular-season conference play for the first time in two years. The two teams have met in non-conference competition in each of the last two seasons, each team winning once, in addition to their 2008 MAC Tournament meeting (which EMU won). Since 2007 spanning over six games, Bowling Green is 1-5 against EMU. The Falcons have not played in Ypsilanti, Mich. since 2006 in a series which the Falcons lost two-of-three with Eastern Michigan.

ON THE BUMP ...
After a slow start, Falcon starting pitchers have begun the turnaround towards giving the team the best chance to win. In their weekend series against NIU (3/26-28), Falcon starters posted a combined 1.86 earned run average in over 19 innings pitched. Of the 12 runs allowed between the Brennan Smith, Michael Frank and Kevin Leady only four were earned. The trio struck out 16 hitters and only walked six NIU hitters.
FRANK WINS FIRST GAME AS A FALCON
Freshman starting pitcher Michael Frank earned his first collegiate win last weekend against the NIU Huskies in a 7-2 Falcon victory on March 27. In his six innings of work, Frank allowed five hits and struck out four. He allowed two runs, only one of which were earned and allowed Huskie hitters to bat .208 against him that day. Frank also threw a perfect inning of relief in the Falcons' non-conference game against Central Michigan (3/24). On the season, Frank now leads all regular Falcon starting pitchers with a 4.23 ERA and is now 1-1 on the season.
GETTIN' STREAKY WITH IT
Two Falcons stood out among the rest this season as they both worked on hitting streaks against the opposition. Ryan Schlater has had two hitting streaks of 13 games end, one beginning May 8, 2009 and ending on Feb. 28, 2010 against Kentucky, this season. Immediately after that, Schlater began his second 13-game hit streak that ended on 3/30 against Dayton. (So in perspective, Schalter has had at least one hit in 26 of his last 28 games!) #T.J. Blanton# extended his hitting streak to 14 games after a seventh inning single against Dayton. His previous career high was 12 games set between 4/24 and 5/14, last season. Blanton now has the longest current hitting streak (14). The next longest streak is set at five by both Jon Berti and Matthew Pitzulo.
HOW ABOUT THAT 'PEN!?
As of late, the Falcon bullpen has showed that it can hold its own when given the opportunity, especially among a few individuals when their number is called. Ross Gerdeman has been stellar all season long, allowing only four earned runs in 23.0 innings of work and sporting a team-low 1.57 ERA. In his last two outings, Charles Wooten has retired 12 straight hitters and 13 straight dating back to last weekend's series against CMU (3/24) over 4.2 innings. In the last four games (3/26-30), the Falcon bullpen has posted a 2.13 ERA and has allowed four runs (three earned) in 12.2 innings.
