Ferris State opened the first period with two quick goals, lighting the lamp twice in the first 2:33 of the game. Senior Jordie Johnston scored his first of two goals in the contest, while senior Aaron Schmit netted his first goal of the year.
The Falcons responded roughly five minutes later, when freshman Dan DeSalvo scored on a turn around wrist shot from the right circle. DeSalvo's third goal of the season cut the deficit to one, and gave the Falcons a boost of momentum.
The Bulldogs stole the momentum back however, when freshman TJ Schleter skated down the ice and ripped a short-handed goal past Hammond, chasing him from the game. Sophomore goaltender Scott Zacharias entered the contest, marking the first action of his college career.
The Falcons responded just 46 seconds later, when sophomore Bryce Williamson knocked home a power-play goal in front, marking his team-leading fifth goal of the year. Williamson's goal marked the Falcons' first power-play tally since Oct. 21, when freshman Adam Berkle scored the game-winner against Lake Superior State.
Bowling Green came out flying in the second frame, determined to tie the contest. The Falcons got their wish at 8:47 into the second period, on another power-play goal from sophomore Ryan Viselli. The goal marked Viselli's second of the year, and gave the Falcons their first two power-play goal game since the season opener against UConn.
The Falcon's would not get any closer however, as Ferris State netted a goal in the second and third frame to put the score at 5-3.
The loss drops the Falcons' record to 4-5-1 overall, and 1-5-0 in conference play. The win puts the Bulldogs' record at 8-2-0 overall, and 4-2-0 in conference play.
Bowling Green will play Canisius next weekend at home in non-conference action. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Friday night, and 4:05 p.m. Saturday night.
