
Falcons End Stay in Winter Haven with 6-0 Loss to Air Force

WINTER HAVEN, Flor. -- In the last day of their stay in Florida, Bowling Green matched up against the Air Force Academy in a Battle of the Falcons. Air Force pitcher Sean Carley kept Bowling Green hitless in seven of his nine innings of work and shutout the Brown and Orange in a 6-0 decision, Saturday morning.

Bowling Green was held to two hits and three base runners on the day. Carley retired 24 straight batters after allowing a leadoff single to Clay Duncan (Norwalk, Ohio) in the top of the second inning. He struck out 12 BGSU Falcons, including six in the last four innings.
Charles Wooten (Woodmore, Ohio) took the hill for his fourth start of the season. He lasted 3.2 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) while striking out a pair. He left in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving way to Mike Frank (Maumee, Ohio) who pitched a flawless 1.1 innings. Ethan McKenney (Defiance, Ohio), Matt Malewitz (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Ben Singer (Midland, Mich.) combined for the remaining three innings. McKenney and Singer each held Air Force without a run but Malewitz was tagged for a pair of runs (one earned) on three hits.
Air Force took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. An error by BGSU third baseman Frank Berry (Virginia Beach, Vir.) put the second batter of the AF lineup on base. Two singles later, Blair Roberts rounded the bases to score. Patrick Lobo added a second run on a sacrifice fly, scoring Nathan Carter from third.
The Air Force Falcons added two more in the third inning and another pair in the seventh inning, totaling six runs on the day.
Bowling Green (4-8) finished their stay at the RussMatt Invitational with a 3-3 record with wins over Lehigh, Mount Saint Mary's and North Dakota State in succession. They return back to northwest Ohio and prepare for their first two home contests of the year. The Falcons will host Indiana State on Tuesday (March 15) at 2:00 p.m. at Warren Steller Field (Bowling Green, Ohio). They then play a second home game on Wednesday (March 16) at 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.
