The Brown and Orange started the game with two runs in the opening frame, though one was scored on a fielding miscue in the outfield. Frank Berry (Virginia Beach, Va.) walked leading into freshman Andrew Kubuski's single through the right side. A fielding error by right fielder Michael O'Neill cost the Wolverines a run as Berry scored all the way from first base to give BGSU a 1-0 lead. Clay Duncan (Norwalk, Ohio) knocked in Kubuski on a sacrifice fly to center field, doubling the lead.
Michigan rattled off six runs against the Falcons in their half of the first base courtesy of five singles and a pair of doubles through the first eight batters of the U-M order. The Wolverines batted around the order on Falcon started Ethan McKenney (Defiance, Ohio) but the freshman settled down and kept the hosts scoreless through his final two innings on the hill.
After the Falcons posted another run in the third inning courtesy a Matthew Pitzulo (Poland, Ohio) single, the Wolverines added two of their own on a two-run shot by U-M catcher Coley Crank off of Patrick Martin (Oregon, Ohio) to make the score 8-3 after four innings. Martin did not allow another earned run in his three innings of work, though a dropped ball in the Falcon outfield did allow one more unearned run to cross the plate in the fifth.
The Wolverines finished their run scoring with three runs between the seventh and eighth innings. After a 1-2-3 sixth pitched by senior Dan Parsons (Strongsville, Ohio), U-M took advantage of two walks to lead off the seventh. Each runner scored, one on a single by Mac Simotes and two addition runs notched on a double by Kevin Krantz, extending the lead to 13-3, a score that remained a final.
Bowling Green's Andrew Kubuski (Elyria, Ohio) led the team with a three-hit day, finishing 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Matt Pitzulo was the only other Falcon to register multiple hits, ending the day batting 2-for-4 and a RBI.
BGSU (11-17) hosts the University of Dayton (17-16) on Wednesday afternoon for their second non-conference, mid-week contest. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET at Warren Steller Field (Bowling Green, Ohio).
