The Falcons could not complete the sweep of the Nanooks in Fairbanks Saturday night, falling to Alaska 4-1. Freshman Adam Berkle scored the lone goal for the Falcons, while junior goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 18-of-21 shots in the loss.
Lucky Number Seven
With the win Friday night against the Nanooks, junior Andrew Hammond now has seven victories on the season. Hammond's win total is a new career high, passing his previous career best (6), which he set last season.
Snapped
The Bowling Green victory Friday night marked their first regulation win since the Falcons defeated Canisius 3-1 at the BGSU Ice Arena on Nov. 12.
CCHA Points
The Falcons' win Friday marks the Falcons second CCHA regulation victory of the season. The Falcons last CCHA win came back on Oct. 21, when Andrew Hammond shut out Lake Superior State 1-0 on the road.
Three On The Board
The Falcons' three-goal outburst Friday night snapped a five-game streak in which the Falcons scored two goals or less. The last time the Falcons scored more than two goals in a game was Dec. 9 against Western Michigan, when the Falcons tied the Broncos 3-3 at the BGSU Ice Arena.
Turning The Page
Bowling Green's win snapped a five-game losing streak to Alaska-Fairbanks, dating back to the 2009-10 campaign, when the Falcons defeated the Nanooks 3-1 (Nov. 13, 2009) at the BGSU Ice Arena. The last time the Falcons defeated Alaska on the road was during the 2008-2009 season, when Bowling Green netminder Jimmy Spratt shut out the Nanooks 1-0 (Oct. 24, 2008).
No Shots Needed
The Nanooks doubled the Falcon shot total Friday night, outshooting Bowling Green 28-14 in the contest. The Falcons' win Friday marks the first time this season Bowling Green has been outshot, and won the game. The Falcons record when being outshot is now 1-10-2.
Special Teams Sniper
Junior Marc Rodriguez has made an impact since returning to the lineup six games ago. The Illinois native has two goals in six games played, including a short-handed tally against Ohio State, and a power-play goal Friday night against Alaska.
Wojtala Makes An Impact
Sophomore Cam Wojtala took a two-game goal streak into Saturday's game after recording the Falcons first tally of the game Friday night. Wojtala's streak marked the second time in his career that he has scored goals in back-to-back games. The first time came last season, when he scored a goal against Alaska on the road (Oct. 30, 2010) and Notre Dame at home (Nov. 5, 2010).
Berkle Makes An Impact
Freshman Adam Berkle's two-point game Friday night matches his career high, which he set earlier this season in a 3-1 win against Canisius (Nov. 12). Berkle is now riding a three-game point streak after scoring the Falcons only goal Saturday night. Berkle's three-game point streak is the longest of his career.
Welcome Back Bobby Shea
Junior Bobby Shea's assist Friday night snapped a five game point drought, dating back to his three-point performance in a 3-3 tie with Western Michigan (Dec. 9).
Assist Men
Sophomore Cam Wojtala and freshman Ryan Carpenter each have 10 assists this season to lead the team. Four Falcons recorded double-digit assists last season, including Wojtala, who registered 11 all last season. Jordan Samuels-Thomas led Bowling Green with 14 assists last season.
Plus/Minus
The Falcons currently rank last in scoring and defense in the CCHA, averaging 1.73 goals-per-game, and allowing 2.77 goals-per-game. Only one Falcon on the roster is not in the minus column. Freshman Rusty Hafner is currently even.
