Last Weekend
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks Friday night, dropping the Nanooks by a score of 3-2 at the Carlson Center. Juniors Bryce Williamson, Brett Mohler and freshman Mark Cooper scored the Falcon goals, while senior Andrew Hammond turned away an impressive 39-of-41 shots in the win. Both teams were scoreless on the power play, with the Falcons going 0-for-4 and the Nanooks going 0-for-2.
The Falcons tied Alaska Saturday night, scoring a late goal to earn a 3-3 regulation draw with the Nanooks in the second game of their two-game set. Junior Cam Wojtala, freshman Mark Cooper and sophomore Adam Berkle scored for the Falcons, while Hammond (2-6-2) stopped 41-of-44 shots. Both teams scored a single marker with the man advantage, with the Falcons going 1-for-5 and the Nanooks going 1-for-8.
Three Goals
The Falcons scored three goals in both games against Alaska this past weekend, marking the first time they have reached the three-goal plateau in back-to-back games this season. The last time Bowling Green scored at least three goals in back-to-back games was in the CCHA Playoffs last season, when the Falcons scored four goals in the final two games of their CCHA Playoff series against Ferris State. The Falcons have reached the three-goal plateau six times this season.
Power-Play Goal
The Falcons went 1-for-5 on the power play Saturday night, snapping a two game power-play goal scoring drought dating back to Nov. 17, a 5-1 loss to Ferris State at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Falcons are now 6-for-73 on the power play this season, ranking last in the CCHA with an 8.2 percent success rate.
Shots Against
The Falcons allowed 41 and 44 shots, respectively, against Alaska this past weekend marking the most shots Bowling Green has allowed against in a weekend series. Prior to the weekend against the Nanooks, Bowling Green had not allowed 40 shots against this season. Prior to the weekend, the last time the Falcons allowed 40 shots or more was on March 16 (58), in the Falcons 3-2 (2OT) loss to Michigan at Joe Louis Arena.
Taking Four
The Falcons were able to secure 4-of-6 points against Alaska this past weekend, marking their best weekend series of the season. The last time Bowling Green was able to secure at least four points in a conference series was against Ohio State (Jan. 7-8, 2012) when the Orange and Brown defeated Ohio State at the BGSU Ice Arena in back-to-back CCHA shootouts.
Hammond's Excellence
Andrew Hammond helped the Falcons to a 1-0-1 record against Alaska this past weekend, stopping an incredible 80 shots over a two-game set. Hammond stopped 21-of-22 shots in the third period Friday, preserving the Bowling Green win. Hammond made even more saves Saturday, stopping 41 shots against the Nanooks, a new season high. The last time Hammond made at least 40 saves was March 16 (55), 2012 in the Falcons 3-2 (2OT) loss to Michigan at Joe Louis Arena. Hammond made 40 saves or more on three different occasions last season.
Shea's Weekend To Remember
Senior Bobby Shea had his best weekend as member of the Orange and Brown, recording two assists in back-to-back games for a four- point series. Shea was also plus-5 over the two-game set, recording three blocked shots to help the Falcons to a 1-0-1 record at Alaska. Shea's performance marked the third time in his career that he has recorded points in back-to-back games. The last time coming Dec. 3-9 last season, when Shea recorded an assist against Michigan State (Dec.3), followed by a three-point night against Western Michigan (Dec.9).
CCHA Defenseman Of The Week
Bobby Shea was honored as the CCHA Defenseman Of The Week, marking the second Falcon this season to be recognized by the conference for weekly honors. Freshman Tommy Burke was named CCHA Rookie Of The Week earlier this season, after helping the Falcons to a shootout win against Ohio State at the end of November. The last Falcon defenseman to earn the honor was senior Ryan Peltoma back on Oct. 25, 2010.
Perrier Back On The Board
Sophomore Marcus Perrier's assist on the first Falcon goal Friday night marked his first point of the season and his first since March 11, a 4-3 OT win over Ferris State in the CCHA Playoffs last season. Perrier's assist on Saturday gave him points in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
Not To Be Outdone
Sophomore Mike Sullivan also recorded assists in back-to-back games against the Nanooks, marking the second time this season that he has recorded points in back-to-back games. Junior Cam Wojtala also recorded points in back-to-back games against Alaska, marking the first time he has done that this season.
Welcome To The Nest
Freshman Mark Cooper scored a goal in both games against the Nanooks, giving him five on the year to lead the Orange and Brown. Cooper's goal scoring streak marks the first time in his career that he has recorded a point in back-to-back games. Cooper leads all Falcons with two power-play goals.

Notre Dame Last Week: The University of Notre Dame got an even-strength goal from Nick Larson and power-play goals from Mario Lucia and T.J.Tynan to lead the Irish to a 3-2 win over Michigan State on Friday night at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Goaltender Steven Sumemerhays stopped 22-of-24 shots in the contest.
The Irish ran their current winning streak to five games as ND got goals from all four lines on the way to a 5-1 win over Michigan State on Saturday night in front of 4,712 at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Anders Lee, Mike Voran, Steven Fogarty, David Gerths and Thomas DiPauli scored for Notre Dame as the Irish led 5-0 in the game before the Spartans' Matt Berry broke up Notre Dame goaltender Steven Summerhays' shutout bid with 2:38 left in the game.
The win, coupled with a 1-0 Miami loss to Lake Superior State moves Notre Dame into first place in the CCHA. The Irish are now 13-4-0 overall and 9-1-0-0 in the conference, good for 27 points and move two points ahead of the RedHawks for the conference's top spot. They also have won seven straight CCHA games dating back to Nov. 4.

Notre Dame Last Week: The University of Notre Dame got an even-strength goal from Nick Larson and power-play goals from Mario Lucia and T.J.Tynan to lead the Irish to a 3-2 win over Michigan State on Friday night at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Goaltender Steven Sumemerhays stopped 22-of-24 shots in the contest.
The Irish ran their current winning streak to five games as ND got goals from all four lines on the way to a 5-1 win over Michigan State on Saturday night in front of 4,712 at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Anders Lee, Mike Voran, Steven Fogarty, David Gerths and Thomas DiPauli scored for Notre Dame as the Irish led 5-0 in the game before the Spartans' Matt Berry broke up Notre Dame goaltender Steven Summerhays' shutout bid with 2:38 left in the game.
The win, coupled with a 1-0 Miami loss to Lake Superior State moves Notre Dame into first place in the CCHA. The Irish are now 13-4-0 overall and 9-1-0-0 in the conference, good for 27 points and move two points ahead of the RedHawks for the conference's top spot. They also have won seven straight CCHA games dating back to Nov. 4.
