The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team defeated the University of Michigan Friday night, beating the Wolverines by a score of 4-3 at the BGSU Ice Arena. Sophomores Chad Sumsion, Cam Wojtala, Bryce Williamson and freshman Adam Berkle all scored for the Falcons, while goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 27-of-30 shots for his 10th win of the season.
The Bowling Green State University hockey team lost to the University of Michigan Saturday night, falling to the Wolverines by a score of 3-0 on senior night. The Falcons failed to convert on nine power plays in the contest, while junior goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped an incredible 46-of-48 shots in the loss.
Bagel On The Board
The shutout loss Saturday night marked the sixth time this season Bowling Green has been held off the score sheet, and the second time in the last four games at the BGSU Ice Arena.
Saves For Days
Hammond's 46-save performance in the loss Saturday set a new career record, trumping his previous high of 44 saves, which was accomplished twice last season.
The Fans
The 5,031 fans who attended Saturday's game marks the largest crowd in the history of the BGSU Ice Arena, breaking the previous total of 5,021 (Dec. 2, 1995).
Streaks Snapped 1
The Falcons victory Friday night snapped Bowling Green's four-game losing streak, dating back to a 4-2 loss to Northern Michigan (Feb. 10) at the BGSU Ice Arena.

Wojtala's power-play goal Friday night snapped the Falcons' nine-game power-play scoring drought. Before Friday night, the last Falcon power-play goal came in a 3-1 win against Alaska on Jan. 20 in Fairbanks.
Streaks Snapped 3
Michigan failed to score a power-play goal against the Falcons Friday night, marking the first time Bowling Green did not allow a power-play goal in five games. The last time the Falcons held an opponent scoreless on the power play prior to Friday, was Jan. 21 against Alaska Fairbanks.
Introducing Chad Sumsion
Sophomore Chad Sumsion's first period goal Friday night marked his first tally of the season, and first since the Falcons' 2-1 over Northern Michigan (March 6, 2011) in the playoffs last season.
Number 20
The Falcons 4-3 win Friday night marked coach Chris Bergeron's 20th win at the helm of Bowling Green. Bergeron is now 20-48-9 overall, with a record of 8-40-8 in conference play.
Story Of Four
The Falcons' four goal effort on Friday night marked the first time Bowling Green had scored four goals in a game since Nov. 19, a 4-4 tie with Miami on the road, snapping a streak of 20 games.
Feeling Blue
Bowling Green's 4-3 win against Michigan snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Wolverines, dating back to the 2009-10 campaign, when the Falcons defeated Michigan 4-2 (Nov. 20, 2009) in Ann Arbor.
BGSU Ice Arena
Prior to Friday night's 4-3 win, the last time Bowling Green defeated Michigan at home was Feb. 9, 2007.
Carpenter
Freshman Ryan Carpenter's assist Friday night gives him 21 points on the year. Carpenter is now tied with the Falcons' leading scorer from last season, Jordan Samuels-Thomas, who finished last season with nine goals and 12 assists.
Story Of Three
Friday night's 4-3 win marked the first time this season Bowling Green had come away with a victory after allowing three goals. The Falcons are now 1-16-3 when allowing three goals or more in a game.
Hammond
Junior Andrew Hammond now has 10 wins on the season, a new career high. Hammond's previous career high was six wins in a season.
Williamson
Sophomore Bryce Williamson's two point night Friday marks his second multi-point game of the season, and first since Canisius on Nov. 11.
The Last Series Against Northern Michigan
The Falcons dropped a 4-2 decision to Northern Michigan in the first game of their series at the BGSU Ice Arena earlier this season, after allowing three-straight Wildcat goals in the first ten minutes of play. Junior Bobby Shea and senior Cameron Sinclair scored for the Falcons, while junior Andrew Hammond stopped 23-of-27 shots in the loss.

Bowling Green lost a close game to Northern Michigan Saturday night, falling to the Wildcats 2-0. The Falcons were shut out for the fifth time this season (at the time), while junior Andrew Hammond stopped 21-of-22 shots in the loss.

Ryan Carpenter, Cam Wojtala and Bryce Williamson are in a three-way tie for the team lead in goals, with eight tallies on the year. Jordan Samuels-Thomas led Bowling Green with nine goals last season.

The Falcons defeated the Wildcats in the first round of the CCHA playoffs last year. Bowling Green lost the first game of the series, but pulled off two-straight wins to advance in the playoffs. The win made Bowling Green the first bottom seed in CCHA history to win a best-of-three series. Bowling Green went 3-3-1 against Northern Michigan (including the playoffs) last season, going 3-2 at the Barry Events Center.
Scouting The Wildcats
Senior Tyler Gron leads the way for Northern Michigan offensively, with 36 points this season. Senior Justin Florek is also a potent scoring threat for the Wildcats, ranking second on the team with 33 points on the year. Gron and Florek rank third and fourth, respectively, in points in the CCHA. Florek recorded four points against Bowling Green earlier this season, in a two-game series at the BGSU Ice Arena.
Sophomore Jared Coreau has taken over the majority of the goaltending duties for Northern Michigan. Coreau carries a record of 11-6-2, with a 2.13 goals-against-average, and a .931 save percentage. Coreau went 2-0 against the Falcons earlier this season, including a 2-0 shutout in the second game of the series.
Northern Michigan ranks fourth in the CCHA in goal scoring, averaging 2.88 goals-per-game. The Wildcats are prone to give up goals however, ranking ninth in the CCHA in goals-allowed-per-game (2.67). The Wildcats also take a ton of penalties, averaging 16.4 penalties-per-game. The Wildcats' special teams have been strong, with both the power play and penalty kill ranking in the top three in the CCHA. Northern converted 3-of-7 power-play chances against Bowling Green earlier this season, and killed off all 10 of the Falcons' power-play opportunities.
