Falcons Close Out Spring Trip With 6-1 Loss To Maine

The Bowling Green State University baseball team concluded their annual spring trip with a 6-1 loss to the Maine Black Bears this morning. Saturday's game was the eighth in eight days for the Falcons at the Russ Matt Invitational, played in Winter Haven, Fla. The Falcons defeated Mount St. Mary's and Georgetown on the trip.
The Falcons once again fell behind early, a deficit that they would be unable to overcome, falling behind 4-0 in the fourth inning. Freshman left-hander Andrew Lacinak got the start for the Falcons, allowing four runs in 3.1 innings. Lacinak cruised through the first three innings, but would not be able to get out of the fourth. Helped by a leadoff walk, the Black Bears were able to jump on the freshman for four runs in the inning. Ben Singer would come in with one out in the fourth, and eventually get a double play to get out of the inning.
Bowling Green would score their only run of the game in the top of the fifth, helped by a Jeremy Shay leadoff double. He was driven home by Alex Davison to score the only Falcon run of the ballgame.
Maine would tack on solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to bring their total for the game to six. Maine had eleven hits in the ballgame, and did not commit an error. The Falcons had seven hits in the game while committing one error.
The Falcons will play their home-opener on Tuesday afternoon, when they meet the Dayton Flyers at 3 pm from the friendly confines of Warren E. Steller Field.

*Clay Rolf received his first collegiate start today, batting eighth as the designated hitter.
*The Falcons finish the Russ Matt Invitational with a 2-6 record.
*Matt Pitzulo and Alex Davison each had two hits in Saturday's game, accounting for four of the seven Falcon hits.
Prayers from the coaches and players go out to former Falcon baseball player Bubba Andrews who is currently battling a brain tumor at home in Clyde.
