The Northern Michigan Series
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team lost to Northern Michigan Friday night, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Wildcats at the Berry Events Center. Freshmen Dan DeSalvo and Adam Berkle scored the Falcon goals, while goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 22-of-26 shots in the loss.
The Falcons defeated Northern Michigan Saturday night, beating the Wildcats 5-3 at the Berry Events Center. Freshman Dan DeSalvo scored twice for the Falcons, while goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 30-of-33 shots in the win.
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team defeated Northern Michigan 4-1 Sunday night, earning a trip to the second round of the CCHA playoffs. The victory marks the second straight season that Bowling Green defeated Northern Michigan in the opening round, and only the second time in the history of the CCHA that an 11th seed moved to the second round. Dan DeSalvo had another two-goal game for Bowling Green, while goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 34-of-35 shots in the win.

DeSalvo's goal Friday night snapped a personal 15-game goal drought, dating back to the Falcons' shootout win over Miami (Nov. 19).

DeSalvo's two-goal effort Saturday night was the first multi-point game of his career. DeSalvo finished with five goals and one assist in the series, including two-goal games in back-to-back nights. DeSalvo only scored four goals during the entire regular season. DeSalvo is the third Falcon to record two goals in a game this season. Ryan Carpenter (ND, Feb. 4) and Bobby Shea (WMU, Dec. 09) are the other two.
Berkle On The Board
Freshman Adam Berkle led the Falcons in points over the weekend, recording seven (2G, 5A) over the three-game series. Berkle's three-point effort Sunday night marks a new career high, and gives him six multi-point games this season.
Making Strides
Freshman Ryan Carpenter's two assists in the series gives him 23 points on the year. Carpenter now has more points than the Falcons' leading scorer from last season, Jordan Samuels-Thomas (21).
Freshmen Scoring
Adam Berkle, Ryan Carpenter, Dan DeSalvo and Conner Kucera all registered a point in Friday night's 4-2 loss, the first of their careers against Northern Michigan.
Five Strong
The Falcons' five-goal effort Saturday is the most Bowling Green has scored in a game all season. The last time Bowling Green scored five goals was Nov. 26, 2010 against Alabama-Huntsville (5-1).
Streak Snapped
The Falcons' win Saturday night snapped a three-game losing streak to Northern Michigan, dating back to Feb. 10.

Freshman Mike Sullivan's two-point night Saturday marked his first multi-point game of his career, and first point since the Falcons' shootout win at Miami (Nov. 19), snapping a personal 22-game point drought.
The Hamburglar Strikes
Andrew Hammond stopped a Northern Michigan penalty shot Saturday night. The last time a penalty shot occurred against BG was on Dec. 2, 2005, when Bryan Lerg (MSU) scored on Jon Horrell in a 3-0 Bowling Green loss on the road. The last time BG stopped a penalty shot was at Michigan State, when Jim Slater was stopped by Jordan Sigalet in a 2-1 BG win (Dec. 3, 2004).
