The Bowling Green State University baseball team was beaten by Wright State on Tuesday afternoon, falling 9-2 at Steller Field. The game, which was the final non-conference game on the 2012 schedule for the Falcons, was played in two hours and 25 minutes. The Falcons fall to 19-28 on the season, and finish the non-conference portion of the schedule with a record of 11-15.
Wright State jumped on the Falcons early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take control. Two doubles, a walk, and an error gave the Raiders the early lead against freshman right-hander Trevor Blaylock.
The Falcons ended the game with just four hits, but had just one through the first six innings. That lone hit in the first six innings came on a Matt Pitzulo single to left field.
After a run in the fifth and three more in the top of the seventh, Wright State led 7-0 as the game moved to the bottom of the seventh.
The Falcons would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh with two runs. The first run came on a Jeremy Shay home run to right field, his fourth of the season. After Jesse Rait and Clay Rolf singles, Rait would come home to score on a Brandon Howard fielder's choice.
Wright State added two more runs in the top of the eighth, to make the final score 9-2. WSU outhit the Falcons 13-4 on the afternoon.
Four Falcon pitchers saw action in the contest. Trevor Blaylock lasted five innings during his start, giving way to Kevin Delapaz. Delapaz went an inning before giving way to Chris Miller. Miller, who went two innings, did not allow an earned run. Jack Masin would pitch a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the game.
Bowling Green will close out the home portion of the schedule by hosting arch-rival Toledo this weekend at Steller Field. The three-game series is scheduled to begin at 3 pm on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons (8-13 MAC) currently trail Miami (10-11 MAC) and Akron (10-11 MAC) for the final MAC tournament playoff spot by two games. Akron will host Ohio this weekend, while Miami will travel to Kent State.
