Game Notes
The Bowling Green State University baseball team will travel to Tennessee Tech University for a three-game series with the Golden Eagles. Following this weekend's games, the Falcons will travel to Florida for four games.

Scouting The Golden Eagles
Tennessee Tech enters the weekend with a 4-4 record, coming off a 9-7 loss on Tuesday against Mid Tennessee. The Golden Eagles have hosted Illinois and Niagara thus far in nonconference weekend series'. The Golden Eagles are coached by Matt Bragga, who is in his tenth year at TTU. TTU is led by Brandon Thomasson, as he has two 2B, four HR, and 10 RBI through eight games. Tennessee Tech hits .285 as a team, with an ERA of 5.96.
The Series
The Falcons and Golden Eagles have met just one time prior to this weekend's series, with the only meeting coming in 1962. In that game, the Falcons dominated the Golden Eagles, taking home an 18-9 victory on the road.
On The Road
Beginning with opening weekend at WKU, the Falcons will spend the first month of the season on the road. With trips to Bowling Green, Ky., Murray Ky., Cookeville, Tenn., Florida (for Spring Break), and Normal, Ill., the Falcons will play 17-of-18 on the road to begin the season. According to Google Maps, the road trips during the first month of the season will cover 4,905 miles, making the Falcons road tested.
Frankly Dominant
RHP Mike Frank turned in a dominant performance on Saturday at Murray State, going seven innings, while allowing two hits. Frank struck out six batters, only allowing one earned run.
Youth Was Served
Over the course of the past two seasons, the Falcons have played a lot of underclassmen. That experience will prove to be valuable in 2013, with all seven batters who hit over .300 in 2012 returning. 10 players with over 50 career hits are on the 2013 roster, with only one of them being a senior.
Falling Behind Early
During the four game losing streak, the Falcons have trailed early in every game. Bowling Green is 0-4 this season when allowing the opponent to score first, but 2-0 when scoring first themselves. BGSU has been outscored 12-3 this season in the first inning.
Second Wind
Bowling Green has rebounded nicely from their slow starts in the first inning, outscoring opponents 9-1 in the second inning through six games in 2013.
Seventh Inning Stretch
The Falcons have struggled in the seventh inning this season, allowing 11 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to opponents this season.

While the Falcon captains lead on and off the field, both Cody Apthorpe and T.J. Losby have led by example between the white lines thus far. Apthorpe has a 1.86 ERA through two outings, spanning 9.2 innings. He has struck out 11. Losby leads the Falcons offense with a .346 ERA. He has started all six contests, driving in a team-high six RBI.
Falcons Tabbed Third By MAC Coaches
The Bowling Green State University baseball team was picked to finish third in the East Division by the head coaches of the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons were selected behind Kent State and Miami. A season ago, Kent State advanced to the College World Series, after finishing 24-3 in MAC play. Two of their losses came at the hands of the Falcons.

The Falcon pitching staff has kept opposing hitters on their toes in the early going, holding opponents to an average of just .242. The pitching staff has also struck out 47 batters in 51 innings, nearly striking out a batter per inning.
Spring Break Trip
Following the three-game set with the Golden Eagles, the Falcons will continue on to Port Charlotte, Fla. for the Snowbird Classic. The Falcons will begin play in Florida on Wednesday, with a game at nationally-ranked Florida Gulf Coast. The following day, BGSU will take on two BCS schools, in Georgetown and West Virginia. The trip will wrap on Saturday with a game against North Dakota State.

Schmitz, who is the winningest active coach in the Mid-American Conference, has won a school-record 36 games on two different occasions. His teams have qualified for the MAC tournament 11 times. He has been named MAC Coach of the Year on three different occasions (1994, 1995, 2009). Below are Schmitz's career milestone victories:
