Scouting The Broncos
Western Michigan University comes to Bowling Green with an overall record of 4-15, having played one common opponent in Florida Gulf Coast. WMU has a record of just 2-12 in true road games.
Coached by Billy Gernon, who is in his third season, WMU has a team batting average of .221 and ERA of 5.84. Andrew Sohn leads the Bronco offensive attack, hitting .368 while having started all 19 games thus far. Mike Moyer is the ace of the staff, holding an ERA of 1.82 in five starts this season.
Last season, the Broncos got the best of Bowling Green in Kalamazoo, sweeping the Falcons to open up MAC play. In that series, WMU outscored BGSU 15-6, taking game three by a final of 1-0.

The Orange and Brown wrapped up a 16-game, 4,905 mile road trip with the conclusion of their series with Illinois State this past weekend.
Pitching In
Bowling Green will put the Mid-American Conference's best ERA on the line this weekend when they host Western Michigan. The Falcons' pitching staff currently has an ERA of 3.92. The Falcons' weekend starting rotation has compiled an ERA of just 3.36 on the season, although their combined record sits at 0-8.
Last Weekend
Bowling Green was defeated in 3-of-4 by the Illinois State Redbirds at The Corn Crib in Normal, Ill. The Falcons won on Friday before losing the final three games of the series. In Friday's game, T.J. Losby went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run.
A Little Bit Of MACtion
The road to Avon, Ohio kicks off this weekend around the Mid-American Conference, with all twelve teams beginning league play. After a one-year hiatus, the Falcons will look to return to the MAC Tournament in May. Last year the Falcons missed the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2007. The 27-game league schedule will feature 15 games at Warren E. Steller Field for the Orange and Brown in 2013.

The Bowling Green State University baseball team was picked to finish third in the East Division by the head coaches of the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons were selected behind Kent State and Miami. A season ago, Kent State advanced to the College World Series, after finishing 24-3 in MAC play. Two of their losses came at the hands of the Falcons.
Error Free For The First Time
The Falcons played an error free game for the first time in 2013, playing a flawless game on Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 loss to the Redbirds. So far this season, the Falcons have committed two-plus errors in 12 different contests, going 3-9 in those games.

Setting The Tone
Cody Apthorpe and T.J. Losby have led by example on the field during the first 16 games of the 2013 schedule. As captains, the rest of the team will look to begin following their lead as MAC play starts this weekend. Apthorpe currently leads the starting rotation with an ERA of 2.49, good for 10th-best amongst MAC pitchers. T.J. Losby is the only Falcon to have started every game for Danny Schmitz, leading the team in runs scored, RBI, and slugging percentage.
Frankly Dominant
Redshirt junior Mike Frank has been a difficult matchup for opposing hitters so far this year, ranking at, or near the top of numerous statistical categories in the MAC. Heading into MAC play, Frank ranks 10th in ERA (2.89), 6th in strikeouts (26), T-2nd in complete games (1), and 8th in opponent batting average (.236).

In his 23rd season as the head coach at Bowling Green State University, Danny Schmitz has a career record of 592-562-5. Schmitz, who is the second winningest active coach in the Mid-American Conference (behind Ball State's Rich Maloney), has won a school-record 36 games on two different occasions. His teams have qualified for the MAC tournament 11 times. He has been named MAC Coach of the Year on three different occasions (1994, 1995, 2009). Below are Schmitz's career milestone victories:
