Around The Bases
• Bowling Green State University is in its 95th season of baseball. The Falcons have an all-time record of 1,575-1,362-27 and are currently 12-17 in 2014.
• T.J. Losby, Jeremy Shay, and Cody Apthorpe will serve as captains in 2014.
• Head coach Danny Schmitz is in his 24th season at the helm of the Orange and Brown. He boasts a career record of 624-598-5.
• Mike Frank was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week on Monday, as he pitched a complete-game in a 3-1 win against Western Michigan. He allowed just one run on four hits and struck out a career-high 12 batters. It was the second straight week which Frank has won the award.
• T.J. Losby is batting .314, having recorded 11 hits over his past five games and eight hits over his last three. On Sunday, Losby went 5-for-5, tying a career-high. He then recorded three hits in Tuesday's win over Toledo.
A Look At Central Michigan
• Central Michigan enters the weekend with the Mid-American Conference's top record, at 8-1. The Chippewas are 20-13 overall, and 14-11 away from home.
• CMU is coached by Steve Jaksa, who is in his 12th season.
• Cody Leichman leads the Chippewas with a .336 batting average. He has started 31 games. He has nine doubles and a team-high three home runs.
• A pair of brothers - Logan and Nick Regnier - have given opposing pitchers fits all season long. Logan Regnier is batting .331 with 32 runs scored. He has stolen 14-of-17 bases on the season. Brother Nick Regnier is hitting .279 and has stolen 22-of-23 bases.
• Central Michigan's pitching staff is the best in the MAC, with an earned run average of .292 - nearly a run per game better than the next best pitching staff in the MAC.
• CMU's weekend rotation features Jordan Foley (Friday), Pat Kaminska (Saturday), and Nick Deeg (Sunday). Kaminska is 5-1 with a 2.14 ERA on the season. Foley is 4-2 with a 3.44 ERA. He has struck out 51 batters in 52.1 innings.
Falcons Win Second Straight Series
• For the second straight weekend, BGSU was able to take a Mid-American Conference series, improving their league record to 4-5 by beating WMU in 2-out-of-3. BG won 3-1 on Saturday, before splitting Sunday's doubleheader.
• After Friday's game was postponed due to rain, Mike Frank came out on Saturday and dominated the Broncos to the tune of a career-high 12 strikeouts in a complete-game win.
• On Sunday, the Falcons were downed 6-2 in the first game of a doubleheader, but their bats exploded for a 12-9 win in the second game to earn the series win.
Falcons Sweep Toledo, Again
• For the second consecutive season, Bowling Green swept arch-rival Toledo in a regular season series, downing the Rockets in both games of a midweek, nonconference series this past week.
• The first game, on Tuesday, saw the Orange and Brown defeat UT 8-4 in the home opener at Steller Field. The Falcons would score seven runs from the sixth inning on to come-from-behind for the win.
• On Wednesday, the Falcons overcame a 3-1 deficit on the road to defeat Toledo 5-3 in extra innings.
Rewriting The Record Books
• Jeremy Shay is currently tied for ninth all-time with 40 career doubles. He has eight this season.
• Ben Singer is seventh all-time with 76 career appearances on the mound. He is just 15 appearances shy of setting the all-time record.
• Mike Frank is currently third all-time, having pitched 269.2 innings in his career. Kip Young holds the all-time record with 295.0 innings pitched.
• Cody Apthorpe is right behind Frank, having tossed 253.1 innings during his career, good for fourth all-time.
• Mike Frank is inside the top 10 for career strikeouts with 193, good for fourth-most in school history.
• T.J. Losby is currently fourth all-time with 938 putouts in his career. The all-time record is 1,038.
• Fellow first baseman and catcher, Jeremy Shay, sits fifth, right behind Losby, with 860 career putouts.
• Brian Bien sits just 4 assists away from the top 10 all-time. The junior shortstop has 383 career assists.
• Senior outfielder Andrew Kubuski currently sits just outside the top 10 for career at-bats with 597. He is just 12 at-bats shy of the top 10 in school history.
• Senior right-handed pitcher Cody Apthorpe has 14 career wins, just two shy of the top 10.
Apthorpe, Losby Have CLASS
• Bowling Green State University seniors Cody Apthorpe and T.J. Losby were named national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award this week, two of just 30 players in the country.
• Apthorpe and Losby are the only two players to be listed among the national candidates from the Mid-American Conference.
• The award is named for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School.
Losby A Leader In All Aspects
• T.J. Losby will serve as a tri-captain of the Falcons in 2014. He was also a captain during the 2013 campaign.
• Losby, who has become one of the best catchers in the Midwest, was named first team All-MAC and second team All-Midwest Region in 2013.
• The senior has also played in 138 straight games, dating back to 2011. He is one of just six players since 2001 to play in every game over the span of two consecutive seasons, which he did in both 2012 and 2013.

Howard Heating Up
• Redshirt junior Brandon Howard has been on fire lately, increasing his batting average to a team-leading .364. Howard had a two-RBI triple in the 10th inning on Wednesday to beat Toledo. He has three extra base hits on the season, with a .455 slugging percentage. He has also stolen 7-of-8 bases.
Frankly Dominate
• Redshirt senior Mike Frank has been the ace of the Bowling Green pitching staff since Mid-American Conference play started, compiling a 2-1 record with a 1.51 ERA.
• Frank has earned MAC East Pitcher of the Week honors each of the past two weeks, tossing a combined 16 innings, while allowing just one earned run on five hits. He has struck out 15 batters during that stretch.
• Last week against Western Michigan, Frank went the distance, striking out a career-high 12 batters in the 3-1 win. The 12 K's tied the most by a MAC pitcher this season.
Losby Named MAC Scholar Athlete
• Senior catcher and two-time captain T.J. Losby was named Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for his efforts last week.
• An accounting major that holds a 3.242, Losby went 8-for-12 with a team-high four RBI on the weekend.
• In Sunday's 12-9 win over the Broncos, Losby went 5-for-5, tying his career-high for hits in a game, with two RBI and two runs scored.
Fitzwater, Miller Toss No-Hitter
• Bowling Green's duo of Brett Fitzwater and Chris Miller combined to throw a no-hitter last Friday (March 14) against Bucknell during the second game of a doubleheader in Lakeland, Fla., a 7-0 victory for BGSU.
• Fitzwater went the first five innings for the win, striking out six.
• Miller finished off the game for his first career save, striking out two over three innings.
• The duo earned MAC East Co-Pitchers of the Week for their efforts.
• It was the ninth no-hitter in school history and first since April 5, 1995.
Falcons Have Tri-Captains In 2014
• Seniors Cody Apthorpe, T.J. Losby, and Jeremy Shay will serve as tri-captains in 2014.
Apthorpe and Losby were both captains last season. Apthorpe was also a captain in 2011, while Shay will serve as a first-time captain.
Schmitz's 2014 Staff Very Familiar
• Anyone involved with Falcon baseball knows Danny Schmitz, who returns for his 24th season in 2014.
• For the seventh consecutive season, assistant coach Rick Blanc will serve on Schmitz's staff as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
• Mike Huling returns for his second season under Schmitz. Huling served as the volunteer assistant coach in 2013 before being promoted to assistant coach in 2014.
• Garrett Gray, an All-Horizon League player at Wright State, joins the coaching staff as the volunteer assistant coach in 2014.
• Drew Kuns will assist the program as an undergraduate assistant in 2014. Kuns, who played from 2010-12 under Schmitz, served in a similar capacity in 2013.
