BGSU Begins Final Week Of Home Schedule By Hosting Youngstown State Wednesday
May 09, 2016 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team begins a four-game home stand on Wednesday, May 11, by taking on the Youngstown State University Penguins at 3:05 p.m. The ballgame will be Bowling Green's final non-conference game of the season.
"This is the last week of home games at Steller Field this season, and it's such an important week," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We've played better on the weekend when we've played a strong midweek game, so this game on Wednesday is big for us. If we can execute in three phrases, I really think it will give us some confidence heading into a huge series against Kent State."
The Falcons will enter play on Wednesday with a 16-31 record, and they will be looking to snap a seven-game losing streak. Bowling Green played the eighth-ranked Florida State Seminoles extremely tough on May 6, as they took a lead into the eighth inning, but the Seminoles would go on to sweep the Falcons over the three-game series.
In Friday's game, Bowling Green received a strong outing from Tyler Anderson. Anderson pitched a career-high 4.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Making just his second start of the season, the right-hander allowed just three hits under the lights in Tallahassee, Florida. Anderson worked around three walks, and struck out two batters. Anderson departed the game in the fifth inning with the Falcons on top, 1-0.
Youngstown State owns an 11-31 record, and defeated Bowling Green on April 27 at Eastwood Field by a score of 2-0. Since beating the Falcons, the Penguins have gone 2-5, earning wins over Canisius on April 30, and University of Illinois at Chicago on May 8.
The Orange and Brown will conclude its home schedule over the weekend by taking on Kent State. Friday's (May 13) game is set to begin at 3:05 p.m., while the Saturday (May 14) and Sunday (May 15) ballgames are slated for 1:05 p.m. start times. Sunday will serve as the program's Senior Day.
