September 16, 2020 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio -- For a week, we asked our fans to vote for their favorite student-athletes of the past 20 years. Throughout the month of September, we will reveal one selection at a time each weekday over a five-week stretch. Today, we highlight your No. 13 choice for the top student-athlete of the past 20 years, football player Scott Miller!
13. Scott Miller (2015 - 2018)
Originally from Barrington, Ill., Scott Miller was the last person opposing cornerbacks wanted to see lined up across from them.
Â
After his redshirt was lifted during his freshman year in 2015, Miller became a core member of the special teams group, and played sparingly at wide receiver, with seven catches for 29 yards. His 24 kickoff returns for 457 yards gave a glimpse at the speed and elusiveness that could make him a threat in the passing game.
Â
Miller's sophomore season in 2016 saw a massive uptick in production, as he proceeded to earn First Team All-MAC honors and lead the Falcons with 74 catches for 968 yards and 10 touchdowns (good for 25th in the country). He had 1,323 all-purpose yards, and ranked fourth in the MAC and 24th in the nation with an average of 6.2 receptions per game. He was also added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, given to the best receiver in college football, for his strong performance at the beginning of the season.
Â
After leading the team in receptions and yards once again his junior year, Miller made the Preseason Biletnikoff Award Watch List before his senior campaign in 2018. He backed that up by leading the Falcons in receptions (71), receiving yards (1,148), and touchdowns (nine). He ranked seventh nationally in receiving yards per game with 104.4, and was named Second Team All-MAC. Miller concluded his career with 215 receptions, which ranks third in program history.
Â
Miller was drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he still plays today. In week one of the 2020 NFL season, he set new career-highs with five receptions for 73 yards.
