BGSU Defeated By EMU In Friday Doubleheader

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was swept in a Friday (May 7) doubleheader by Eastern Michigan University. EMU won the games by scores of 8-0 and 10-8. The four-game Mid-American Conference series is being played at Steller Field at Gary Haas Stadium.

The Falcons drop to 11-16 in conference play with the pair of defeats. EMU moves to 9-14. The series will conclude on Saturday (May 8) with a 12:05 p.m. doubleheader.

The Falcons scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth in the night cap, and were able to bring the tying run to the on-deck circle. After Tyler Haas singled home a run, Dylan Dohanos clubbed a three-run homer to right field, bringing the Falcons within two runs at 10-8. Dohanos' home run marked the second of his collegiate career.

David Stopp's scoreless ninth nearly allowed the Falcons to come all the way back. The BGSU offense posted 17 hits in the second game of the day, as Dohanos, Haas, Andy Gaytan, Kyle Gurney, Jack Krause, Adam Fallon and Nathan Rose all registered multiple hits. Rose had a four-hit game, while Adam Furnas collected one hit and one walk.

"We were inconsistent in every aspect of the game today. For us to be successful, we have to string quality baseball together. For example, clean innings are a premium and we have to secure the third out when we get two quick ones. It allows us to get in a rhythm and flow with the defense. The shutdown inning was missing today on the mound and allowed them to build a lead that we were unable to overcome. Offensively it's a mindset of taking one quality at bat at a time and passing it down the lineup to score for the team. I expect our level of urgency to be better tomorrow than it was today."
