Quick Facts
Last Time Out
The last action for the Falcons was a high scoring series against Western Michigan. BGSU won the series 3-1 in the end.
Game one was the lowest scoring game of the four, a 4-0 win for the Falcons. Three hits from Adam Fallon (plus an incredible catch!) and two RBI from Jack Krause helped the cause, but it was Gage Schenk who stole the spotlight. A complete game shutout of the Broncos (9 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 6K) not only earned the win for the Falcons, but it earned Schenk MAC Co-Pitcher of the Week and MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honors.
Game two was a rollercoaster of emotions for Falcon and Bronco fans alike. The teams traded blows throughout the game, as the scoreline stayed close throughout. An inside-the-park homer from Nathan Archer and five RBI from Adam Furnas helped the Falcons get through the middle of the game. In the bottom of the seventh (in a seven inning game), Western Michigan had a 13-11 lead and two outs. That didn't faze Tyler Haas, as he hit a two-run homer to tie up the game and send it to extras. The Falcons surrendered more runs in the top of the eighth, but a barrage of hits in the bottom half of the inning led to a walk-off single for Krause. The Falcons won in a stunner, 17-16.
The Broncos got their revenge in game three of the series, as their bats stayed hot for the second game of the Saturday doubleheader. The Falcons offense also stayed hot, but weren't able to keep up. Five more RBI from Adam Furnas highlighted an 18-10 loss.
The Broncos were held in check a bit more in the series finale, as Levi Gazarek made his first start as a Falcon. He did enough to make sure Western Michigan couldn't pull away, then turned things over to great bullpen pitching. Will McLean and Jeremy Spezia combined to throw five innings, giving up just one run and four hits. Meanwhile, the Falcons offense continued to demolish Bronco pitching, putting up another 15 runs. Archer set the tone from the leadoff spot, racking up four hits and three stolen bases. Another four hits came from Nathan Rose, while Kyle Gurney, Tyler Ross and Haas all registered three hits on the day as well.
