BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team moved to 3-0 at home on Friday (March 24), topping the Miami (OH) RedHawks 5-2 at Steller Field. Miami lit the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Falcons quickly responded in the bottom half with a two-run Nathan Rose home run, tying the game at 2-2. The scoreboard was silent again until the seventh inning when an infield single by Nathan Archer pushed the Orange and Brown in front 3-2. The Falcons added two insurance runs in the eighth to clinch the 5-2 win.
On the mound, Gage Schenk put together another strong start for the Falcons, tossing seven innings and striking out nine. Schenk has now sent down nine batters via strikes in two straight starts and earned his first win of the season in the contest. Connar Penrod came on to take over for Schenk and didn't allow a hit or walk over two innings while striking out two and recording his first save at the collegiate level. With the win, the Falcons are now in the midst of a four-game winning streak while being 3-0 at home. On the season, Bowling Green is 7-12 with a 3-4 MAC record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first three innings were scoreless for both teams before Miami scored two in the top of the fourth to move out in front 2-0.
- Bowling Green immediately responded. Nathan Archer knocked a single to left field to begin the inning followed by a two-run home run to left field by Nathan Rose to knot it up at 2-2.
- In the top of the fifth, the RedHawks had a runner on second with no outs, but Archer caught a fly out to center and threw out the runner trying for third to clear the bases, keeping the tie intact and putting two outs on the board.
- In the top of the seventh, the Falcons worked out of a jam. With runners on second and third, Ryan Johnston was able to throw out the runner going for home on a ground ball with the infield playing in. Justin Fugitt then caught a fly out to right and threw out the runner trying for home to end the inning with the 2-2 tie remaining.
- The next run came in the bottom of the seventh for the Falcons. With runners at second and third with two outs, Archer legged out an infield single, beating the throw and allowing Fugitt to score from third and put BGSU in the lead 3-2.
- The Falcons added to their lead in the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Johnston found a gap in left center to score DJ Newman to push the lead to 4-2.
- Later in the inning, Sam Seidel drew a walk to load the bases before Kyle Gurney also walked, bringing in Johnston to make it a 5-2 BGSU advantage.
