Falcons Fall To Ohio State Despite Strong Bullpen Showings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team took on the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday (April 12) in Columbus at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. It was a bullpen day for the Falcons, using nine pitchers in nine innings. From the second through the fourth, the Orange and Brown hurlers sent down seven of eight batters on strikes. In the end, it would be the Buckeyes picking up an 8-2 final. The loss moves BGSU to 11-18 on the season with a three-game MAC series on-deck this weekend at Steller Field.

The Falcons will return home to Steller Field this weekend, hosting the Eastern Michigan Eagles for a three-game series. Friday's (April 14) game is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch with Saturday and Sunday scheduled for 1 p.m. starts. Saturday will also be Alumni Day for the Falcons, recognizing the 1998, 2008 and 2013 MAC Championship teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ohio State tallied the first run with a leadoff single followed by a triple off the wall. A grounder later in the inning brought home the runner from third to make it a 2-0 game after the first.
- From the second inning spanning through the fourth, BGSU relievers rotated through and tallied seven strikeouts over eight batters. Jacob Turner struck out the final two batters of the second followed by Isaiah Seidel sending down the Buckeyes in order in the third on strikes. The streak continued with Luke Krouse striking out two of three outs in the fourth.
- The Buckeyes added a trio of runs in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run and a solo shot to increase their lead to 5-0.
- OSU knocked another two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to move their advantage to 7-0.
- In the top of the seventh, Justin Fugitt led off the inning with a triple to the right field corner, the first BGSU hit of the game. Tyler Ross followed with a single up the middle to score Fugitt and put the Orange and Brown on the board.
- The Falcons added to their tally in the eighth. Sam Seidel began the inning by drawing a walk followed by a single to center for Nathan Archer. Ryan Johnston was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Fugitt hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Seidel and leaving runners at the corners. Ohio State responded with a pitching change with the score at 7-2 and one out in the inning.
- The Buckeyes were able to get a double play ground ball to get out of the inning with just one run of damage.
- A sacrifice fly for Ohio State in the bottom of the eighth pushed their lead to 8-2.

- Jacob Turner made another scoreless relief appearance for the Falcons, his sixth straight. Over his last six outings, Turner has now totaled seven innings of work, allowing just four hits and six walks while striking out seven and recording one win and one save.
- Drawing a walk in the top of the eighth, Sam Seidel continued a streak of reaching base in 23 of his 26 games played this season, including 21 of the last 22.
- After Seidel's walk, Nathan Archer continued a streak of his own with a single to the outfield, logging a hit in 11 of the last 12 games.
