April 09, 2023 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team attempted to form an eighth-inning rally, scoring one with the bases loaded, but the rally fell short against the Kent State Golden Flashes on Sunday (April 9), 4-2. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kent State began the game with a leadoff home run for the second consecutive game, hopping out to a 1-0 lead.
- The Falcons quickly responded with a round-trip knock of their own. Kyle Gurney sent a blast to left center, clearing not only the fence but the trees as well, for his second home run of the season to knot it up at 1-1.
- In the top of the sixth, Nic Good entered with the bases loaded and no outs. A sacrifice fly tallied a run for Kent State to give them a 2-1 lead. Good responded with a strikeout before picking off the runner at first, 1-3-6, to end the half of the inning.
- The Golden Flashes loaded the bases again in the top of the seventh, scoring one before a pitching change with the score at 3-1.
- After the pitching change, a sacrifice fly brought home another run for KSU to make the score 4-1.
- In the bottom of the eighth the Falcons worked to load the bases with hits from Jack Krause and Ryan Johnston followed by a walk to Sam Seidel, prompting a change on the mound for the Golden Flashes.
- After the pitching change, Gurney drew a walk to plate the second BGSU run of the game, but the rally ended there with a 4-2 score after eight played.
