BGSU Picks Up Series Sweep In Oxford For First Time Since 1995
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead, tallying five runs in the first inning for the 5-0 advantage. Gavin Ganun hit a two-run home run in the third and another two-run home run in the fifth to push the BGSU lead to 9-0. The RedHawks battled back with three in the fifth to get on the board. One in the seventh and fourth in the eighth brought Miami within one through eight innings played. The Falcons added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, but two RedHawk runs in the bottom half sent the game to extras. After two scoreless frames, the Falcons struck for four runs in the top of the 12th for the 14-10 lead before closing the door in the bottom half for the win.
Gavin Ganun's two home runs marked the first multiple-home run game by a Falcon in exactly one year. Eight different Falcons logged a hit in the game with all eight scoring at least once. In addition to Ganun, Nathan Archer, DJ Newman and TJ Takats all posted multiple-hit days for the Orange and Brown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nathan Archer led off the game and hit a ball just foul that resulted in a review. After the review confirmed the call, Archer slapped a single to center. Sam Seidel followed with a fielder's choice error to put runners at the corners before Newman drew a walk to load the bases.
- Tyler Ross stepped in with the bases loaded and no outs. Ross sent a sacrifice fly out to center with Archer scoring and Seidel moving to third. Leighton Banjoff put a ball in play to third that resulted in a fielding error to score Seidel and make it 2-0.
- After an out was recorded, TJ Takats doubled to center, scoring Newman. Gavin Ganun then put a ball in play that scored both Banjoff and Takats after an error for a 5-0 BGSU lead after the top of the first.
- The second inning was scoreless before the Falcons struck again in the third. Jack Krause drew a walk to start the inning and stole second. A ground out moved him to third before Ganun blasted a two-run home run to make it a 7-0 Bowling Green lead.
- The same sequence repeated. The two teams played a scoreless fourth before Krause singled to start the fifth. Ganun stepped in and belted his second home run of the day for a 9-0 lead.
- The RedHawks scored two in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double to cut into the lead 9-2 and prompt the first BGSU pitching change of the day. Miami added another run after the change for a 9-3 score through five innings.
- Miami tallied an RBI double in the seventh and scored four in the eighth to cut the lead down to 9-8.
- With two outs in the top of the ninth, the Falcons put together a rally. Takats singled and stole second before walks to Ganun and Cooper McKenzie loaded the bases. After a pitching change, Archer drew a walk to plate Takats for an insurance run at 10-8 entering the bottom of the ninth.
- Miami scored two in the bottom of the ninth with the second run scoring on an interference call with the 10-10 tie sending the game into extra innings.
- In the 12th inning, Archer reached via walk before a Seidel single to right put runners at the corners. Newman singled to center, scoring Archer to put BGSU in front.
- Ross drew a walk to load the bases before Banjoff singled to left, scoring both Seidel and Newman. Krause was hit by a pitch to again load the bases with Takats hitting a fielder's choice to score Ross and make it a 14-10 BGSU lead and win.
