BGSU's Team On Another Level
This year has been one for the record books for Bowling Green. In addition to setting conference wins records, the team has had their fair share of statistical records. Already, the Falcons have broken the program records for walks drawn in a season, with 296, as well as strikeouts thrown, with 379. As it currently stands, BGSU is on pace to break the program's fielding average record for the second time in three years. The team is also just two saves away from tying the program record and are within striking distance of the innings pitched, RBI and runs scored records as well.
Archer Adds To Draft Resume
Nathan Archer has already put his name in the record book seven times this year and is one RBI away from an eighth. He's entered the top 10 for three career stats and four single-season stats, including breaking the program record for at-bats in a season. Now, Archer can add MAC Player of the Year to his resume. Archer led the MAC in runs and finished the regular season third in RBI, making him the only player in the conference this season to rank inside the top three for both stats. His 17 home runs and three triples also made him one of two players in the MAC with 15+ home runs and 3+ triples, joining Miami's Zach MacDonald. Archer is the third Falcon in program history to be named MAC Player of the Year and the first since Nolan Reimold in 2005.
Wright Claims Freshman Honor
Garrett Wright became the third freshman Falcon in the last four years to receive All-MAC First Team honors as well as the third freshman Falcon in the last four years to be named Freshman of the Year. At the plate, Wright led the MAC in on-base percentage with a mark of .506 and set the program record for hit-by-pitch in a season with 19, ranking second in the conference. Wright added a .393 batting average, ranking first on the team, second in the MAC and first among freshmen. He also slotted in first among true freshmen in the conference for slugging percentage (.607), resulting in the fourth-best OPS (1.113) in the MAC and first among MAC freshmen.
Hallock Makes MAC History
After BGSU's historic regular season run, head coach Kyle Hallock was named the MAC Coach of the Year. Winning the MAC Pitcher of the Year award in 2011 with Kent State, Hallock is the first individual in MAC history to be named MAC Player of the Year as a student-athlete and MAC Coach of the Year as a head coach. This is Hallock's first Coach of the Year recognition and the fourth for the program after Danny Schmitz received it in 1994, 1995 and 2009. In total, BGSU received 14 MAC honors across nine different Falcons.
All-MAC Wrap Up
In addition to Hallock, Archer and Wright's awards, Sam Seidel earned All-MAC First Team along with Archer and Wright. Nic Good was named All-MAC Second Team as well as All-MAC Defensive Team along with Archer and Wright as well.
