No. 15 St. Thomas Edges BGSU in Overtime, 3-2
February 06, 2026 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The No. 15 St. Thomas Tommies (18-8-3, 15-4-2 CCHA) scored 2:26 into overtime to outlast the Bowling Green Falcons (14-7-6, 11-5-3 CCHA), 3-2, on Friday night inside Slater Family Ice Arena. The Falcons earned one CCHA point with the overtime loss. BGSU is tied for fourth in the CCHA standings with Minnesota State at 37 points.
Both defenses were lights out at five-on-five, as all goals in the game were scored on the power play, four-on-four, or three-on-three.
In overtime, after the Falcons lost puck possession in the offensive zone, St. Thomas pushed the pace in transition. Dylan Gobout moved the puck to Luc Laylin, who found Nick Williams for the game-winning goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• BGSU dented the scoreboard first when Brody Waters found the back of the net on the power play, unleashing the Teddy Bear Toss. Waters stationed himself at the crease and was fed by Ben Doran, while Tyler Hotson earned the second assist with a pass from behind the cage. The goal came with 6:08 remaining in the first period.
• St. Thomas tied the game, 1-1, with 1:27 left in the opening period on a power-play opportunity. BGSU's Gustav Stjernberg was assessed a five-minute major penalty, setting up the Tommies' man advantage.
• Noah Morneau ripped home a transition goal just 54 seconds into the second period to give BGSU a 2-1 lead. The goal came during a four-on-four situation after St. Thomas was called for a slash late in the first period. The Falcons were still killing the five-minute major that led to the Tommies' first goal. Brayden Crampton recorded the primary assist, with Hotson picking up his second assist of the night.
• St. Thomas evened the game at 2-2 with 7:09 left in the second period on its second power-play goal of the night, courtesy of quick tic-tac-toe passing. Nathan Pilling notched his second power-play goal of the game.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM
"That is a pretty good hockey team. We did a pretty good job at five-on-five, although in the second and third periods we did not generate much offense. This time of year, it's special teams. They went 2-for-4 on the power play and we went 1-for-4. But we held a pretty good hockey team to zero goals at five-on-five." — Dennis Williams, BGSU Ice Hockey Head Coach
UP NEXT
• The Falcons and No. 15 St. Thomas conclude the series Saturday night at Slater Family Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 6:07 p.m. It is also Winter Olympics Night.
