February 07, 2026 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (15-7-6, 12-5-3 CCHA) held the No. 15 St. Thomas Tommies (18-9-3, 15-5-2 CCHA) scoreless for the game's final 59:04 on Saturday night to secure a key CCHA victory, 3-1, inside Slater Family Ice Arena.
BGSU picked up four of a possible six points in the series and now stands in fourth place in the CCHA with 40 points. The Falcons trail No. 16 Augustana by two points heading into next weekend's matchup. Michigan Tech sits in second place with 45 points, while St. Thomas remains atop the standings with 47 points.
Bowling Green limited St. Thomas to just one goal, marking only the second time this season the Tommies have been held to one or fewer goals. St. Thomas previously fell to then-No. 18 Minnesota State, 3-1, on Oct. 31.
BGSU also did not surrender a five-on-five goal to St. Thomas all weekend. All goals scored by the Tommies came on the power play or during 3-on-3 overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Thomas opened the scoring with a power-play goal just 56 seconds into the game after BGSU was whistled for interference 12 seconds in. Alex Gaffney's shot deflected off Caige Sterzer and into the net 44 seconds later to give the Tommies a 1-0 lead.
• BGSU answered quickly as Ben Doran scored the first five-on-five goal by either team in the series. Brody Waters dumped the carom of an Ivan Korodiuk shot to Doran at the crease for the equalizer 4:05 into the game.
• The Falcons took a 2-1 lead 3:40 into the second period when Dominik Rymon scored from the crease. Doran earned the primary assist, while Quinn Emerson picked up the secondary assist.
• BGSU added an insurance goal on the power play 3:13 later when Jackson Niedermayer ripped a shot into the net to make it 3-1. Breck McKinley and Doran recorded the assists.

FALCON NOTES
• Goaltender Jacob Steinman made 31 saves, including 17 in the third period.

• Forward Ben Doran posted three points on one goal and two assists, his first three-point game since March 8 against Michigan Tech. It also tied his career high.
• Doran's two assists tied a career high and marked the sixth time he has reached that total.
• BGSU split the season CCHA points with St. Thomas, 6-6, earning four points this weekend and two in St. Paul back in November.
FROM THE LOCKER ROOM
"Throughout the weekend we didn't give up any five-on-five goals. We gave up three power-play goals and the three-on-three goal in overtime. We got behind early with the power-play goal on what I think was the first shot Jacob [Steinman] saw, but he settled in pretty quickly. It was a real gutsy effort. We have a lot of guys who are tired, and they should be tired. We play a physical, fast game." – Dennis Williams, BGSU Ice Hockey Head Coach
