LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons earned their first win against the No. 9 Alaska Nanooks at the BGSU Ice Arena with a 3-1
victory last Friday night. Led by a stellar performance by Nick Eno between the posts and seven different
Falcons finding scoring columns, Bowling Green gave head coach Dennis Williams his first Division I collegiate victory of his career. Seniors Tomas Petruska and David Solway led the team with a pair of points off of second-hand helpers in the game. Saturday night the Nanooks returned to the ice and quickly took a 3-0 lead in the first period before the Falcon offense could react. Freshman Jordan Samuels-Thomas and senior David Solway both scored goals that led a charge bringing the Falcons back to within one goal twice during the contest, but UAF hit an empty net goal with :30 remaining to seal the win and the split for the Nanooks. Solway and Samuels-Thomas both scored two goals and two assists to lead the Falcons with four points on the weekend.

WILLIAMS GETS FIRST FALCON WIN
Interim head coach Dennis Williams earned his first win coaching his alma mater on Friday, Nov.
13, 2009 after the Falcons downed the No. 9 Alaska Nanooks, 3-1. It also marked his first win
as a head coach at the Divison I level after having spent three season with Division III Neumann
College, posting a 35-32-8 record with a program that had only 20 total wins in six seasons before
his arrival. Williams became the sixth BGSU hockey head coach in the program's 40 year existance after Scott Paluch stepped down from the position in June 2009.
'JST' NAMED CCHA ROW
Freshman forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week by the
conference office for the week of Nov. 9. This is his first such honor after posting a four-point
weekend against No. 9 Alaska on Nov. 13-14. Samuels-Thomas scored the first goal in Friday night's
contest en route to the first Falcon win of the season and then followed up on Saturday night with a
goal and two assists in the series finale. Samuels-Thomas is in the top ten in five different offensive
categories with his 5-5--10 line this season.
A LITTLE BIT GOES A SOLWAY
Senior alternate captain David Solway had a monster weekend against No. 9 Alaska (Nov. 13-14) after
starting the 2009-10 campaign slowly. In two home games against the Nanooks, Solway posted a fourpoint weekend helping on Falcon goals twice in a BG victory and scoring two of his own in a 5-3 loss. Solway now has five points on the season with another assist that was scored in his first game back from injury against Providence on October 23. All of his points have been scored during home games.
MORE PRAISE FOR SOLWAY
Every week the BGSU athletic communications department carefully sifts through all the accomplishments Falcon student-athletes complete through the course of the week and select a male and female representative to highlight based on their performances in their respective sport. On Nov. 16, senior David Solway was selected to be the Papa John's Male Athlete of the Week following his fourpoint weekend against No. 9 Alaska. Solway tallied two goals and two assists while BGSU collected
its first win this season against the Nanooks on Friday, Nov. 13.
STATISTICAL TRENDS TOWARDS SUCCESS
When looking at games where the Falcons have provided the most excitement and competition, a few
trends emerge to the amateur statistician:
In the four least penalized games the Falcons have played in this season, they have experienced the most success. On Oct. 24 vs. Providence (4), Nov. 7 at Ferris State (5) and Nov. 14 versus No. 9 Alaska (5) the Falcons lost or were losing by one goal with less than a minute remaining in the contest. On Nov. 13 (5) the Falcons earned their first win of the season, defeating No. 9 Alaska, 3-1.
In both games decided by one goal this season, the Falcons kept the opponent scoreless on the power play. Bowling Green held Minnesota State (Oct. 9) and Ferris State (Nov. 7) to a combined 0-for-10 on the power play in those games.
SCOUTING THE No. 16 MICHIGAN WOLVERINES- (4-6-0, 2-3-0-0)
Recent action: After being named number one in the CCHA preseason coaches and media polls, the Wolverines have started off slow and dropped ten spots in the USCHO.com polls from No. 6 to No. 16. This is due, in large part, to having been swept in back-to-back weekends in conference competition. Granted, the Wolverines played the number one team in the nation, Miami Redhawks, followed by No. 14 Michigan State but were outscored in those games 13-4 and included a shutout in the series finale with the Spartans. The Wolverines are currently on a four-game losing streak, its longest since 2005. They have not scored a power-play goal in their last three-plus games and 20 chances. In three of their four wins this season, the Wolverines have scored five or more goals against their competition. In four of their six losses, UM has allowed three or more goals, except when they have been shut out which has occurred twice by scores of 2-0 at the hands of Alaska Fairbanks and Michigan State.
Players to watch: Matt Rust is leading all UM scorers with nine points and is second on the team in goals
scored (4). His five assists and .250 shooting-percentage lead the team in those categories, as well. A pair of Wolverines are tied for second on the team in goals scored, Rust being one such player and the other Carl Hagelin, who is also tied for second on the team in points (8). Chris Brown leads Michigan hockey with five goals scored, two coming off of the power play. Brown and Hagelin's two power-play goals serve as the team lead in power play scoring. Bryan Hogan has been the sole netminder for UM this season and has posted a 2.51 GAA while stopping only 89.3 percent of shots has faced. He is fifth in the CCHA in total saves with 131 on the season.
Statistically speaking: Michigan has prided themselves on their penalty kill this season, having not allowed a power-play goal in 35-of-38 (.921) of their conference opponents' chances. Overall, they have killed 54-of- 59 (.915) chances this season ranking fifth nationally. Chris Brown is tailing BG's Jordan Samuels-Thomas in freshman scoring with eight points of his own (5-3) this season, ranking third in the CCHA. Michigan, as a team, has thusfar scored 13 first period goals, the most among CCHA teams. They have also scored the fewest goals in the second period, tied with Northern Michigan with five.
