MEISLER REGISTERS CYCLE
In the series opener between Kent State and Bowling Green, senior second baseman Logan Meisler went 4-for-5 and made the most of his plate appearances by accomplishing one of baseball's most difficult offensive feats and hitting for the cycle in a 12-14 loss. Meisler led the game off with a triple in his first at-bat, followed by a RBI infield single as a part of a four-run second inning. In the third inning, which BGSU scored six runs, he contributed with a line-painting double to left field that also scored a run. In his last plate appearance, Meisler blasted a home run to right center field, capping his near-perfect night. He also scored twice and notched three RBI on the night.
LOOKIN' FOR THREE!
With the leadoff triple that was a part of his cycle on Friday night, Logan Meisler also tied a program record for number of triples in a season. Set by Larry Arndt, Meisler recorded his sixth three-bagger to tie the mark set in 1982. Meisler leads the team in triples with his six, though teammate Jon Berti trails only by one with five. Meisler now ranks seventh on the BGSU all-time career list with nine triples, tied with Dick Selgo (1972-75).
SENIORS SPOTLIGHTED THIS WEEKEND
As with the close of every baseball season, the BGSU baseball family looks to thank and wish another class of senior ball players well as they play their final game at Warren E. Steller Field. This weekend, nine such seniors will be honored for their contributions towards the program over their careers. Outfielders #T.J. Blanton# (Sandusky, Ohio), David Borcherdt (Archbold, Ohio), Mark Galvin (Pickerington, Ohio), and Dennis Vaughn (Kirtland, Ohio); pitchers Kevin Leady (Luckey, Ohio) and Richie O'Brien (Boardman, Ohio); infielders Logan Meisler (Port Clinton, Ohio), Derek Spencer (Oregon, Ohio) and Brandon McFarland (Perrysburg, Ohio) will be spotlighted as they take to the field on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1:00 om ET and Senior Day festivities will commence prior to the first pitch.
COMING DOWN THE BACKSTRETCH
Going into the last weekend of the regular season the Falcons are currently tied for first place in the MAC East division with Kent State University. Outlying the “could be's” and “what if's” as the season comes to a close, let's take a look at some possible scenarios for this weekend and next.
If BG sweeps UB, and KSU sweeps Akron: Bowling Green will retain a share of the MAC East regular season championship, though KSU holds the tie-breaker for tournament seeding over BGSU due to the season series going to KSU (2-1).
If KSU sweeps and BGSU does not: Bowling Green will secure second place in the MAC East, regardless of what Ohio does this weekend, due to the season series being won by BGSU.
If in any combination of games, BGSU wins more games this weekend than Kent State: Bowling Green will win the MAC East outright and the Falcons will have to see how Ball State, Central Michigan and Toledo come out of the weekend to determine their tournament seeding.
PREVIEWING CHILLICOTHE
This year's Mid-American Conference Tournament will be held at Veterans Administration (VA) Memorial Stadium (Chillicothe, Ohio), home of the Chillicothe Paints of the Prospect League. Bowling Green can top out and acquire a No. 2 seed if Toledo and Central Michigan are swept this weekend and BGSU sweeps UB. The Falcons are a lock to make the tournament despite what happens this weekend, but can range anywhere between the two and seven seeds depending on their play and the play of others withing the conference.
