Malewitz allowed only three runs on five hits in his six innings of work against the Buckeyes. All three runs and four of the hosts' five hits were recorded in the fourth inning. Malewitz struck out a total of four OSU batters while walking only one.
The Falcon bullpen pitched the final three frames and held the Buckeyes to just one run on one hit, that being allowed by senior Charles Wooten (Elmore, Ohio) in the eighth inning. Nick Bruns (St. Henry, Ohio) and Ben Singer (Midland, Mich.) combined for two perfect innings of relief in the win. Singer struck out one OSU hitter to continue his streak of consecutive outings with a strikeout, now at 11 straight.
Bowling Green got off to a nice starting posting a two-run third inning taking advantage of two hits and two wild pitches from OSU starting pitcher Dean Wolsiansky. Frank Berry (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded a one out single through the middle only to be followed by Andrew Kubuski's single to left putting runners on first and second. Wolsiansky threw two wild pitches in the next Falcon at bat, scoring Berry from third. Matt Pitzulo (Poland, Ohio) grounded out two batters later to score a second run.
Clay Duncan (Norwalk, Ohio) led the following inning off with a double to right center field and was moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt. He scored two batters later on a ball batted on the ground to the right side. Duncan moving on the play crossed the plate though OSU second baseman Ryan Cypret committed an error on the grounder. The 3-0 lead vanished the next inning with the Buckeyes equaling the Falcon total in their next at bat.
The Buckeyes scored three times with two outs on three singles, one scoring Cypret. With runners on first and third, Ohio State left fielder David Corna recorded a two-out double to left field, scoring both runners and tying the game.
The bottom of the lineup came through for the Falcons leading to two more runs in the sixth inning. Patrick Martin (Oregon, Ohio) and Jeremy Shay (Garden City, Mich.) found themselves on third and second after hitting a single and double, respectively. Alex Davison (Grand Ledge, Mich.) and Berry followed with RBI singles, plating a pair of runs.
Three Falcons recorded multiple hits on the day and every Falcon except Jon Berti had at least one hit on the day. Frank Berry and Matt Pitzulo each had two hits and a RBI.
Bowling Green (14-19) now readies itself for a home series with MAC East foe Ohio University this weekend at Warren Steller Field. The series with the Bobcats will begin on Friday at 3 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday games scheduled to start at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
