The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team lost to Michigan last Wednesday night, falling to the Wolverines by a score of 3-1 at Yost Ice Arena. Senior
Bobby Shea scored the lone Falcon goal, while senior Andrew Hammond (1-6-1) turned away 35-of-38 shots in the loss. Both teams were held scoreless on the power play, with the Falcons going 0-for-3 and the Wolverines going 0-for-4 in the contest.
Shea Scores
Senior Bobby Shea scored the lone Falcon goal Wednesday night, snapping a personal nine-game goal drought. Shea's last goal came on Oct. 19, a 3-1 Falcon win on the road against Colgate. Shea now leads all defensemen in goals (3), and has a share for the lead in points among defensemen (4).
Hammy Shines
Despite the Falcons' 3-1 loss to Michigan, goaltender Andrew Hammond made a season-high 35 saves on 38 shots in the contest. Hammond's previous season high was 29 saves, set on two different occasions earlier this season (Nov. 2 & Nov. 9). Hammond's last game with 30 saves or more was on March 16, when Hammond recorded a career-high 55 saves in a 3-2 double OT loss to Michigan in the CCHA Playoffs.
The Silver Lining
Bowling Green was perfect on the penalty kill against Michigan in the contest, snapping a five-game streak in which the Falcons had allowed a power-play goal. Prior to last Wednesday, the last time Bowling Green did not allow a power-play goal was Nov. 2, a 1-0 win against Michigan State on the road.

Special Teams Trouble
The Falcons have struggled on the power play and penalty kill this season, ranking last in the CCHA in both categories. With the man advantage, Bowling Green has scored five goals in 64 opportunities, equaling 7.8 percent. The penalty kill hasn't been much better, coming in at 75.4 percent (46/61).

Alaska Last Week: Senior right wing Andy Taranto became the 18th player in Alaska Nanooks men's hockey program history to notch 100 career points but the visiting No. 4 Miami RedHawks proved a potent opponent, beating their hosts 5-2 on Friday night at the Carlson Center.
The Alaska Nanooks suffered their first sweep of the season as the No. 4 Miami RedHawks shut them out 4-0 on Saturday night at the Carlson Center.
Alaska fell to 6-7-3 on the season and 4-6-2-0 in CCHA play, slipping into sixth place in the league standings. Miami retained its hold on first place at 9-2-3 overall and 6-2-2-2 in conference contests. Alaska goalie John Keeney (Business Administration) turned aside 23 shots in the loss, while his counterpart Ryan McKay made 26 stops en route to Perani Cup First Star honors.
