Falcons Fall At Akron On Friday

For the third time in the last five Mid-American Conference games, the Bowling Green State University baseball team was shutout, falling 3-0 at Akron on Friday. The game was played at Canal Park in Akron, and was the first game of a three game weekend series. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 11-18 on the season, and 2-5 in the MAC.
Matt Malewitz was impressive for the Falcons on the hill, keeping the Zips off balance for much of the afternoon. Receiving his first weekend start of the season, Malewitz went 6.1 innings, before running out of steam. The Zips led 1-0 when Malewitz came out of the game, but he left with runners on second and third and just one out in the seventh.
Akron starter Andrew Brown held the Falcons to two hits on the afternoon. The Falcons sent just three batters to the plate in five different innings, leaving four runners on base on the afternoon. The Falcons would not get a runner past second base after the first inning, as Jake Thomas was stranded at third to end the first frame. The Falcons had their leadoff hitter on base in four different innings, but could not capitalize on their chances on the afternoon.
The game, which took just one hour and 49 minutes to complete, was the fastest game the Falcons have played all season. The two teams will continue their series tomorrow afternoon at Canal Park, with first pitch scheduled for 1 pm.
