Over The Weekend
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team tied Canisius Saturday afternoon, battling to a 2-2 draw with the Golden Griffins at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
Freshman Ben Murphy and sophomore Ryan Carpenter scored the Falcon goals, while senior Andrew Hammond (3-7-3) stopped 29-of-31 shots in the contest.
The Falcons defeated Canisius Sunday afternoon, dropping the Golden Griffins by a score of 3-2. Dajon Mingo, freshman Brent Tate and senior Marc Rodriguez scored for the Falcons, while freshman goaltender Tommy Burke (2-3-2) turned away a career high 32-of-34 shots in the win.
Welcome Mr. Murphy
Murphy's goal on Saturday marked the first point of his Bowling Green career, and the fourth Falcon to secure his first point as a member of the Orange and Brown this season (Dajon Mingo, Mark Cooper and Brent Tate).
Mingo On Fire
Mingo's goal in the second period on Sunday pushed his point streak to four games, dating back to Falcons' 1-4 loss to Notre Dame on Dec. 15, 2012. Mingo's four-game point streak ties a career high set earlier this season.
Tate On The Board
Brent Tate's first collegiate goal in the third period on Sunday gives him a point in every game he has played in for the Orange and Brown, pushing his season point total to three.
Rodriguez On The Board
Marc Rodriguez's game-winning goal Sunday marked his first tally of the season, snapping a personal 19-game point drought. Rodriguez's last point (goal) came back on March 16, 2012, in the Falcons' 3-2 double-OT loss to Michigan at Joe Louis Arena. Rodriguez's last game-winning goal came back on Nov. 12, 2010, a 2-1 win over Northern Michigan on the road.
New Game High
Freshman Tommy Burke stopped 32 shots in the Falcons' win against Canisius on Sunday, marking a new career high for the rookie. Burke's previous career high came against Ohio State on Oct. 26, 2012, a 27-save effort. Burke's start on Sunday marked his first game since Nov. 17, 2012, a 3-1 loss to Ferris State.
Berkle With The Assist
Sophomore Adam Berkle recorded an assist on the first Falcon goal Sunday, giving him his first point since Dec. 8, 2012 against Alaska in a 3-3 tie. Berkle's longest span without a point this season is three games.
Carpenter On A Roll
Sophomore Ryan Carpenter's assist on the first Falcon goal Sunday extended his current point streak to four games. Carpenter's career high is five games, set last season.
Atlantic Hockey
After going 1-0-1 against Canisius this past weekend, the Falcons are now 5-0-3 against Atlantic Hockey foes in their last eight meetings. Bowling Green's last loss to an AHA school came on Oct. 18, 2007, a 2-0 loss to Niagara.
Almost 30
Senior Andrew Hammond made 29 saves against the Golden Griffins Saturday afternoon, marking only the second time in the last six games that Hammond did not have at least 30 saves.
DeSalvo Extends His Lead
Sophomore Dan DeSalvo recorded an assist on Brent Tate's goal Sunday giving him 11 this season, a team high. DeSalvo's assist snapped a four-game point drought, dating back to two assist effort against Alaska on Dec. 8, 2012. Combined with his one goal, DeSalvo is tied for second with Dajon Mingo on the team with 12 points. DeSalvo's 11 assists this season are a new career high.
Streak Snapped
Bowling Green failed to score on the power play Sunday, snapping the Falcons' season best four-game power-play goal streak. The last time Bowling Green had a streak of four games or better was during the 2010-11 season, when the Falcons scored with the man advantage in five-straight games (Nov. 26-Dec. 10).
Streak Continues
The Falcons did keep one streak alive over the weekend, pushing their scoreless streak on the penalty kill to three games. Bowling Green's three-game streak without allowing a goal on the penalty kill is the second longest of the season, compared to a five-game streak from Oct. 19 – Nov. 2, 2012.
