Box Score
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Bowling Green State University pounded out 12 hits on Saturday afternoon, but five errors proved too much to overcome, as Eastern Michigan defeated the Falcons 11-6 at Steller Field.
EMU would jump on the Falcons from the get go on Saturday, as the first two batters of the game recorded hits. Mike Frank was able to work out of the jam though, getting the next three batters to pop out, foul out, and fly out to keep the game scoreless.
Bowling Green would struggle to produce runs early in the game, stranding 12 runners on base for the day.
In the second, the Eagles would jump on the scoreboard, sparked by a leadoff double. After a failed pickoff attempt moved the runner to third, he would score on a bunt base hit. Eastern Michigan would add to the lead in the top of the third with two runs, but Patrick Lancaster would gun down a runner at the plate from right field for the inning-ending double play.
The Orange and Brown tallied a run in the home half of the third, when Brian Bien came home on a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Shay. Shay continued his recent hot streak, going 2-for-4 with two RBI on the afternoon.
The Eagles would collect six hits over the next two innings, allowing them to plate five more runs and increase the lead to 8-1 after the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons would begin to work their way back into the game, the big blow coming thanks to a two-run home run by Logan Walker. Also in the inning, after having reached on an error, Nick Glanzman came around to score from first on a double by Andrew Kubuski.
EMU would push the lead to an insurmountable deficit with three more runs in the top of the ninth. Although the Falcons would get the first four runners on base in the home half of the inning, they would manage just two runs in their comeback attempt.
With the loss, the Falcons now sit at 7-18 (3-5 MAC) on the year. Eastern Michigan improved to 13-16 (3-5 MAC) with the win. The two teams will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the rubber match of the series.
