Football Defeats Indiana For First Big Ten Win In The Doyt
The Bowling Green Falcons had not hosted a Big Ten team at Doyt Perry Stadium since 2008 and had never beaten one on their home turf. Both of those facts changed on a sunny Saturday afternoon last Sept. 13 as the Falcons won a 45-42 shootout over the Indiana Hoosiers. Bowling Green's up-tempo offense dazzled a near-sellout crowd of 23,717 by racking up a school-record 113 plays. Quarterback James Knapke , in just his second career start, threw for 46 completions in 73 attempts. Both marks were new BGSU records. The game rested in Knapke's hands after Indiana took the lead late in the fourth quarter. Seven completions pushed the ball to the Indiana 31 with less than 30 seconds to play. The Falcons faced a 4th-and-2, but Indiana committed pass interference on consecutive plays to give BGSU 1st-and-goal at the 2. After one incompletion, Knapke connected with Lewis on a fade pass to the corner of the end zone for a touchdown and a 45-42 lead with just nine seconds left. The Falcons held on from there, and the celebration ensued.
