May 15, 2017 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team concludes its home schedule on Tuesday (May 16) with a 3:05 p.m. game at Steller Field versus the University of Dayton. The contest will be the second half of the scheduled home-and-home series between the Falcons and Flyers.
"These in-state games are always very important to our program," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "There are a lot of great programs in the state of Ohio, and we are all fighting for the same things. We will approach this game like any other, and we are excited to play at Steller Field for one last time in 2017."
On March 21, Dayton, on its home field, defeated the Falcons by a score of 3-1. Dayton scored a single run in each of the first two innings, and tacked on a run in the fifth, before the Falcons scored one in the ninth, and eventually brought the tying run to the plate. Jake Wilson led the Falcons that day at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 and drove in BGSU's only run.
Bowling Green received scoreless outings on the mound from Nathan Lohmeier, Kody Brown and Tony Landi. Lohmeier struck out three over 1.2 shutout innings, while Brown posted 1.1 scoreless innings. Landi worked a scoreless eighth.
The Flyers are 17-34 on the season, hitting .236 as a team, with a 5.63 team ERA. Dayton is scheduled to start southpaw Mason Kutruff (3-5; 5.96 ERA). Senior Addison Rospert is scheduled to make his first-career start on the mound for the Orange and Brown. Last week, Rospert pitched a career-high 3.1 innings at Ohio State, racking up a career-high four strikeouts.
Bowling Green will conclude the regular season at the end of the week with a three-game series at Elon. The series will begin on Thursday (May 18) with a 7 p.m. first pitch. Both teams will then play a doubleheader on Friday (May 19), beginning at 2 p.m.
