Falcons Earn Doubleheader Sweep Of Miami Behind Dominant Pitching & Timely Hitting

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team secured a Mid-American Conference series victory on Tuesday (May 18) by sweeping Miami University in a doubleheader. Both league contests were seven innings and played at Steller Field at Gary Haas Stadium. BGSU took the first game, 2-0, before winning the night cap by a score of 4-3.

The Falcons opened the series with the RedHawks with a 7-1 win in Bowling Green on May 4. The four-game series will conclude with a single nine-inning game on May 25 at 3:05 p.m. BGSU improves to 14-21 within the MAC following the pair of victories.

Andrew Abrahamowicz set the tone for the Orange and Brown, as he tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener. The right-hander scattered five hits to move to 4-4 on the campaign. Abrahamowicz issued two free passes while striking out three batters.

Bowling Green's offense received a pair of clutch two-out RBI singles. Kyle Gurney put the Falcons on the board with a single into center in the third inning, prior to Ryan Johnston concluding the game's scoring with a single into right field in the fourth.

In the night cap, the Falcons scored two runs apiece in each of the first two innings, and then held on for the 4-3 win. After Adam Furnas scored on a fielder' choice, Jack Krause poked a two-out RBI single up the box. In the second, Gurney and Furnas doubled the Bowling Green lead with consecutive run-scoring hits.

Jeremy Spezia picked up his first win of the season by hurling two shutout innings. Nathan Lohmeier worked the last two innings, registering a six-out save. Griffin Parrill and David Stopp helped bridge the gap with scoreless innings from out of the bullpen.
