
Bowling Green Bested By Broncos

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Bowling Green Falcons (1-5-0, 0-0-0 CCHA) dropped the Saturday night contest to No. 9 Western Michigan Broncos (3-0-1, 0-0-0 NCHC) by a score of 5-2. The second game of the series happened almost the same as the first one did, on Friday night in Slater Family Ice Arena. The Broncos started the scoring early in the first period, the Falcons responded not soon after in the first, and then Western Michigan closed out with two minutes to go in the first. Both teams added a tally in the second period and the Broncos second period goal ultimately started a three-goal scoring run to secure the win.

Bowling Green will return to action Friday, November 3rd for a two home-game series against the Mercyhurst Lakers, puck-drop set for 7:07 p.m. and will serve as Youth Hockey Night.

Scoring Plays
- Western Michigan's Matteo Costantini scored one-minute into the game. Chad Hillebrand intercepted a Falcon pass and took the puck down the ice, quick pass in front of the goal and Hillebrand pushed it past Moore.
- Spencer Kersten scored on a power-play at 10:57 in the first period. Brandon Santa-Juana intercepted a Broncos clear attempt behind the goal, sliding the puck to the right of the goal. Setting up Kersten to push the puck past the Broncos goaltender.
- Western Michigan responded not soon after to take the lead at 18:34 in the first period. Sam Colangelo had a clear path for Falcon territory when the Broncos cleared the puck off the boards allowing Colangelo to skate down the ice through Orange and Brown and take the lead. Â
- Gustav Stjernberg added momentum for the Falcons when he tied the game up in a power-play goal at 10:47 of the second period. Stjernberg shot the puck from the point, that was blocked by a Bronco and he then took his rebound and buried it in the top right corner of the goal. Assist came from Ryan O'Hara and Brody Waters. Â
- Western Michigan scored five minutes later at 15:03 in the second period. Hilsendager shot from the point and Phillips was there on the doorstep of crease to secure the goal.
- Straight off a face-off the Broncos had a shot in front of Moore, the puck bounced out in front and Colangeo hit the puck into the Falcons goal.
- The Broncos secured the win with an empty-net goal late in the third period (17:36).
- Spencer Kersten scored his second goal and first power play goal for the Orange and Brown. Kersten's power play goal is only the second for the Falcons on the year. Brandon Santa Juana added his first collegiate assist on the Kersten goal. Â
- Gustav Stjernberg scored his first collegiate goal, only being his third game. Assist came from Ryan O'Hara and Brody Waters. O'Hara now leads the Falcons in points on the year (2-2-4). Waters tallied two assists on the series, one on Friday and one on Saturday.
- Cole Moore tallied 42 saves on the night and 72 on the series. Moore totals 98 saves through three games as a freshmen.
