Bowling Green and Notre Dame Play to an Electric 2-2 Tie
January 31, 2026 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (14-6-6) and Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-18-3) played an exciting contest that required overtime and a shootout before the sold-out Slater Family Ice Arena crowd could head home. The crowd of 5,000 saw the teams skate to a 2-2 tie, which Notre Dame finished with a shootout goal in the eighth round. The shootout result had no bearing on the non-conference contest.
Brayden Crampton scored a power-play goal with 11.4 seconds left in the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams then played scoreless hockey for the final 25 minutes, resulting in the tie. Ty Higgins passed to Quinn Emerson, who sent it back to Higgins before he found Crampton for a rocket of a goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• BGSU dented the scoreboard early when Jeremie Minville redirected a shot past the Notre Dame keeper 4:24 into the game. Breck McKinley and Tyler Hotson picked up the assists.
• Notre Dame started the second period hot, scoring two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead. The first came 1:01 into the period on a power-play goal. The second came in transition, as Sutter Muzzatti's rebound shot snuck through the five-hole on a follow up by Brennan Ali while a BGSU Falcon was sent into goalie Jacob Steinman.
• After Notre Dame's Cole Brown was ejected from the game for a major penalty for hitting from behind, Brayden Crampton scored on the power play to tie the game with 11.4 seconds left in the period. Ty Higgins and Quinn Emerson earned the assists.
• Notre Dame goalie Nicholas Kempf made 15 saves in the third period and nine more in overtime to stave off the Falcons. The Irish managed only one shot on goal in the overtime period.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM
"We did a lot of good things. We had our chances, but I liked the way we played. I thought we held the puck better. We went through two tied games of hockey, and it could have gone either way. There are a lot of things we can pull from it as we prepare for the final push in the CCHA."
