THIS WEEK IN FALCON HOCKEY ...
After a disapointing opening weekend resulting in a sweep at the hands of nationally ranked Michigan, Bowling Green is ready to rebound in the Empire State with a pair of games in Potsdam, N.Y. The Falcons will play two with Clarkson University (1-1-0), a team that is led by an old friend, George Roll. Roll played his college puck at BGSU from 1983-86. Both Friday and Saturday (Oct. 15-16) games will begin at 7:00 p.m. EST from Chell Arena.

LAST TIME OUT ...
The Falcons opened the 2010-11 regular season with a pair of losses to then-No.4/5 Michigan by a combined score of 8-3. Friday night the combination of Jordan Samuels-Thomas and David Solway accounted for BGSU's lone score while the freshman class followed on Saturday when Chad Sumsion and Camden Wojtala recorded their first collegiate points on the same goal. Samuels-Thomas finished the weekend with three points (2g, 1a) and was Bowling Green's nominee for Player of the Week (Oct. 10).
Bowling Green had their chances with a man-advantage but went 2-for-17 (.118) on the power play over the weekend. Conversely, the Brown and Orange allowed three power-play goals to U-M on nine penalty kill chances (.333). Five of the eight goals scored against BGSU were tallied in the first period. The only goal scored against them in the third period was an empty netter notched on Friday night.
THE STARTING FIVE - Five Facts On BGSU Hockey
-- Clarkson head coach George Roll is 3-2 against his alma mater since taking the reigns of CU in 2003. This is the first full weekend series in Potsdam, NY between BGSU and Clarkson.
-- This is the first road trip that Bergeron will be taking with the team and the first leg of a wild road schedule for the Falcons during the first half of the season. BGSU is set to make two trips to the Empire State, their second as part of the RPI Tournament (Troy, NY) in late November.
-- Jordan Samuels-Thomas has now opened up both his freshman and sophomore seasons with three-point weekends after notching two goals and an assist against Michigan last weekend.
-- Last year Samuels-Thomas was the only freshman to score until Reed Rushing did so in the team's third game. This year, the Falcons already have two freshmen (Cam Wojtala & Chad Sumsion) in the scoring column through two games.
-- Over the last three seasons that head coach Chris Bergeron spent as an assistant in Miami, his teams were a combined 35-7-8 when on the road.
FALCONS DOING WORK ON CLARKSON IN RECENT YEARS
Since former Falcon and current Clarkson head coach George Roll took over the reigns in Potsdam, NY in 2003 the battle between the Golden Knights and Falcons has been fairly even. In five meetings between Roll and BGSU, the Roll-less Falcons have a 3-2-0 edge in the series. Roll took the first two games from the Falcons on Dec. 9, 2005 at the Ice Breaker Tournament (Orono, Maine) in a 6-4 decision and then again on Nov. 24, 2006 in the only time Roll has hosted his alma mater. In that game, Clarkson shut out Bowling Green, 5-0. Since that loss, BGSU has come back and won the last three meetings, including last year's 4-3 BG victory in Minneapolis, Minn. at the Dodge Holiday Classic.
ON PACE FOR ANOTHER GREAT SEASON
Despite the team opening 0-2-0 against nationally ranked Michigan on Oct. 8-9, Jordan Samuels-Thomas (South Windsor, Conn.) began the 2010-11 season with a three-point weekend (2g, 1a). Last year, Samuels-Thomas also opened up the season with a three-point weekend against Minnesota State, though all three points were assists. Point-wise, the sophomore is on pace with the start of his freshman season. Goal-wise, he is obviously +2 from last year's pace.
JST CONTINUES SUCCESS ON THE P(OWER) P(LAY)
The South Windsor, Conn. native took the most points away from the team's opening weekend (2-1-3) and three-quarters of his scoring was done while on the power play. His (and the team's) first goal of the season was blasted home to take a 1-0 lead on Michigan (Oct. 8) and then on Saturday night he assisted on teammate Chad Sumsion's power-play score late in the first period. It was expected that Samuels-Thomas, with his big body, would be crucial on the PP for BG this year, and he is not disapointing. Last year, ten (4-6-10) of JST's 25 points were scored on the power play.
